Would you rather play RNG slots or VLT (like in NY). Is there an advantage of one over the other? I live in NY so am stuck with VLT. Anyone know what types the Indian owned casinos use?
RNG: playing against a defined mathematical house edge (typically defined by the reel configuration + pay table). Each spin is entirely independent of the ones before and after it. This is Vegas, Reno, Atlantic City, plus a host of other places. Some states use this configuration (Oregon, South Dakota) for state-gaming.
VLT (Video Lottery Terminal): There's a fixed pool of result outcomes (probably in the millions or tens of millions) amongst a group of identical or similar machines in the vicinity. Once the result is given (via a central computer controlling that particular bank of machines) in the form of the result on your gaming screen, it's removed from the results pool. Once the pool is entirely exhausted, it starts over again.
Thank you

VLT's limit average payback on any machine to 95%, to the point of crimping games and lowering pay tables. Vegas tries to give the illusion of higher paying slots near 99% on select machines, but they are probably a lot lower, like 90% on nickel slots overall. VLT's might average around 86% on nickel slots overall. But this is a new era of penny slots paying up to a million coins or more; the 150 players who lost all their money might be funding one persons' bonus run.
Another difference between Vegas & NY is taxes. VLT jackpots will be taxed on wins of $600 or more, like you were buying a pick 3 or 4 lottery ticket at the store. Vegas taxes on $1200 or more. These numbers have been forever low for decades and should be more like $5,000 or $10,000, or higher given new tax laws raising the standard deduction to $12/$24 thousand. Slot machines used to pay $1199 to avoid a handpay, that is no longer standard with jackpots going up with technology inflation.
There used to be a magazine that would publish average paybacks at different casinos at different denominations. The higher the denomination, the higher the payback rate. Rates would be in the 85% to 95% range.
I think the racinos use VLT's, and Indian casinos don't (but I'm not sure and really need a second opinion).
Some people have observed their credits disappearing while playing a VLT. Probably has nothing to do with removing a player's card on a win.

If you're playing penny slots, definitely NY racino VLTs. New York mandates the minimum payback on any racino VLT machine to be 90%. The highest in the country.

Definitely whichever one has the higher payback as they are both still randomly selected.
At my age, a "Life In Prison" sentence is not much of a deterrent.

So it turns every jackpot into a sort of must-hit-by (must hit before the pool gets empty and starts over). But how do you know when it's starting over?

You don’t because more results can be dumped into the pool at anytime. Or, another pool added to the current pool.

Agree.
According to monthly stats RW slots pay in the same range as AC machines.
Slot machines in Native American casinos in upstate NY operate the same as AC or LV.
I presume you know that the same holds true for FW and MS in Ct.
