Hi all,

I'm visiting Vegas in May and just wondered if there are any slots/fruit machines reminiscent to those in the UK with holds/nudges/features? I was last in Vegas in 2007 with family and didn't get much of a chance to play, well, anything really... but I remember looking around the casinos and seeing slots with just spin buttons, even the more entertaining video slots had just spin buttons where a feature would generally play itself with the player not having any input into the outcome. From what I have gathered, is that US slots are completely random and very loosely set to a payout percentage, where UK machines have a more pre-determined outcome by strictly sticking to its set payout percentage set by the operator - whether this is a reason I didn't see any, the lack of demand, or if US law does not permit machines of this, I don't know, I just thought I'd ask if anyone can shed any light?

Thanks in advance,

Kev

In Vegas, I would not expect to find anything similar to a fruit machine.

I've never seen a game with a UK style nudge or repeat. There are some games which will nudge automatically based on the outcome, but this is usually on 3-reel physical reel games with zero player interaction and no strategy.

Nearly all games in Vegas have some sort of bonus round which is triggered by specific combinations on the reels. For the most part, there is no strategy in bonus rounds either.

As far as the payback percentage goes, the operator can set the game to a specific theoretical return percentage, but the game cannot alter the probability of any event happening. From my understanding, a fruit machine can alter it's own settings over time to target a specific payback.
I heart Crystal Math.

Thanks for the response. The only machine I seen that resembled anything like a nudge was a 3-reel slot machine with diamonds (pointing up or down) embedded in the Bar symbols, they would then move up or down if one position below the win-line. Has there ever been anything like a fruit machine trialed in Vegas, or even in the US for that matter? If not, it would be interesting to see how they are perceived by players.

A fruit machine is set a 'target' percentage, usually 78%-82% in pubs, and the machine has an 'actual' percentage which is its live percentage. So if it's set at 82% (target) and is currently playing at 79.45%(actual), then the machine is due to pay and will let the player win accordingly to reach its target percentage - obviously this is over tens of thousands of spins.
