Quote: WizardI wouldn't complain. Online poker is infested with sharks and bots.
At my current skill stakes (low and micro) even worst case scenario online is still better than live.
I'll bet your local casino has a table full of older folks every morning playing 3/6 chasing promotions like busted bullets or a board full of high hand bonuses funded by the bad beat pot. Bring $100 to that game... Play suited connectors, high cards, and pairs pre flop. I'd bet dollars against doughnuts you come out ahead more time than not. Just watch out for two or more overly aggressive players... Chances are those guys will be playing no limit, or are waiting for a seat at the no limit table.
You won't get rich doing this, but most casinos will gladly comp you lunch after 4-5 hours of play and give you free coffee all morning.

yeah for sure I can play those games when I am already at a casino but I am looking for something to play more frequently that I can afford and actually get some experience with. There is no way I would be +EV doing that (double internet rake, tips, travel expenses, worse rewards/promos, I wouldn't have my strategy references) it would just amount to some really expensive lessons for me right now.
In the mean time I have switched to playing No Limit cash games at the lowest common stakes ($0.01/$0.02 and $0.02/$0.04).
If you had a prior account at Bovada and switched it over you can still play from the US?

I'm not sure how important it is for you to play online, but if it's something you really want to do I might be able to hook you up.

What's the point of .01/.02. Might as well play with play money.

I think your point is valid but I would phrase it a bit differently. I would say the lower the stakes, the less valuable the practice is.
Playing with play money online is nothing like a real game with real money in a casino.
I remember PlayStation 2 game called stacked. I would say playing that against the computer would be better practice than playing online with free money.
Other than that, there are free bar poker leagues in most major cities that have prizes for their tournament of champions winners. I you have that available, it might be a good option.

Do you use a VPN?

For those saying avoid online poker, one of the best use cases is practicing for live games. I used to play 100's of hands per hour at 2/4 and 3/6 to practice for live games up to 40/80.

I think we are trying to say the same thing. I agree that the quality of play at an online 3/6 game is way better than .01/.02.

Well for 0.01/0.02 No Limit the buy-in cap is usually like $2 but as you amass chips you still get to play whatever you have on the table so even though it appears to be a mere penny game bets getting as high as $6 or $10 all in bets are not uncommon. So if you don't know what you are doing you can still drain your bankroll just as easy any other form of gambling.
For a person like me who still needs a lot of study and practice for No Limit it allows you get those hands in and start to confirm an actual win rate and if you are playing at a place that allows easy record keeping of hands played you can get start to build analytics of your play which really can help you improve your game.
