Welcome to the forum.
I believe most poker players will prefer playing with casino-quality chips. The poker chips should weigh 9-10 grams, made with a durable material, easy to shuffle and able to be stacked. (Many years ago, I purchased a fancy-looking chip set online branded with WPT and Bellagio logos. However, my friends didn't like using those chips because apparently the chips aren't flat and a stack will constantly fall over.) I prefer composite or ceramic chips over clay chips. In my experience, clay chips get damaged more easily.
The 11.5 gram chips sets that come with 300+ chips, cards and buttons are suitable for home games. I hate playing with plastic, interlocking chips.
I found a webpage that is old but I believe is still accurate: http://www.pokerology.com/articles/buying-the-perfect-poker-chips/
These chips should be fine:

They're not cheap, but Sidepot makes some seriously outstanding chips. Their website is http://www.buypokerchips.com/. About 4 years ago, I used the design-your-own feature to make a set of business-card chips & it worked very, very well.

Hi Josh,
Welcome to the forum.
I prefer ceramic or clay, but they are quite expensive on a per piece basis. My personal set is a composite material which serves the purpose.
If you haven't already run across it, check out the "Chip of the Day" thread for all things chip collection related.

Craps!
You want chips? You said you did.
Go to Amazon, buy a starter pack or two.
Then go crazy and buy some other colors.
So you got:
$1
$2.50
$5
$25
$100
$1000
$5000
$10000
$50000
That should get you started. Mine might be 'clay', might be composite, definitely not plastic.
Who would buy plastic?
I just remembered, I have never used the $1 white ones, waste of my money;-)

Thanks for sharing the website. There are more websites from where you can also buy the poker chips, poker plaques and custom poker chips as well and apachepokerchips is one of them.

I can't emphasize this enough. Get. Samples. Always. Get. Samples. Any time you are going to drop some reasonable money on a chip set, ask for samples so you can be sure you're going to be happy with the result. Any reputable chip supplier will do this for you for a reasonable price.
Casinos are not your friends, they want your money. But so does Disneyland.
And there is no chance in hell that you will go to Disneyland and come back with more money than you went with.

I like a ceramic type of chip. Easy to stack and feels like solid and will last long enough. Plastic chips are not easy to stack and sometimes feel so light.
