You need to win a pot with $20 or more in it with the following hands, 2 pair, 3k, str8, flush and FH you get a stamp for each hand.
People are/were playing TERRIBLE at the 1-2 NL. Example I made it $10 with AA from early because there was a any two serial re-raiser/ bluffer at the table, sure enough he makes it $40 with $220 behind, I put him all in he thinks for 20 seconds and calls with 6C 3C. He busts out and re buys.
Good heavens. Was he playing that way to complete a bingo card, or does he just play that bad normally?Quote: AxelWolfPeople are/were playing TERRIBLE at the 1-2 NL. I love poker promotions that push action (such as headhunter tournaments).
Quote: RomesYeah, well next time when he hits a flush with his SUITED 6-3 THEN who's the idiot??? =P

A few years back the poker rooms were filled with tourists like that would wanted to play "Texas Hold Em"like they saw on TV. Many went away and the poker rooms closed or downsized, good to see some are still out there.
I think he just normally plays this bad.Quote: teddysGood heavens. Was he playing that way to complete a bingo card, or does he just play that bad normally?
Perhaps he was on tilt for some reason only had 1 or 2 stamps on his card anyways. What's he got like a 3% chance of getting a flush? I think he had a st8 and 2 pair on his card.
Yes Romes. They can and do hit this type of crap on you. I have had all kinds of Bad beats. Like A A VS 2,3 off for a substantial amount all in preflop.
I have only seen a downsize in the number of people playing. I haven't seen that big of a change how they actually play. There's just less tables and less room's. Obviously this type of player I found the other night isn't typical but its not obscure, can find them more than you would think especially during the weekend.Quote: BozA few years back the poker rooms were filled with tourists like that would wanted to play "Texas Hold Em"like they saw on TV. During the boom many of the boomers were made up of normalish ABC players. Lots of couples trying there best.
The young grinder pros you would rather not play against tend to all play at places like Aria.
My question is if Black Friday didn't happen do you think poker would have kept growing or was it a temporary fad?
Question for you; to get the stamp, do both of your cards have to play, or can you do it with only 1?
1 (if even that)Quote: beachbumbabsWithout Black Friday, poker would be astronomical. Huge. Still growing. IMO of course.

I don't think it would've remain as hot as it was, but I think the numbers would grow. The main thing they needed was to keep celebrity poker going.Quote: DRichI think poker had plateaued before Black Friday. I think it is just a natural cycle where a lot of people tried it for the first time and eventually lost their money and quit.

Long-winded version:
Several of us tracked this pretty diligently for the better part of a decade on another poker-specific site, as did and does the Center for Gaming Research at UNLV. Live poker was noticeably starting to fade well before "Black Friday" and this was clearly reflected in the trend of the Gaming Revenue Reports, in which poker had peaked and was obviously trending down for several years before that. The NL structure for cash games (which only became common during the TV induced boom) does have an inherent tendency to eat itself. But live poker won't go away, and in my opinion probably will bottom out at a level that will still be higher than it was before the TV sponsorship created boomlet.
One side-effect of the 'major' supposedly 'offshore' operators in the American market getting busted, including the Full-Tilt pyramid operation, the UltimateBet/AbsolutePoker scam sites, the more semi-legit sites like PokerStars, and others, is that the total real volume of actual money in American online poker became known in the forensic examination of them after the Dept. of Justice seizures. It was surprisingly quite small compared to the hype, and while it amounted to a lot of money when viewed as the income of some previously not-very-well-employed individuals involved in controlling some of the sites, it was really a relatively small business that didn't amount to all that much compared to the business of legal brick & mortar casino revenue. But it sure seemed TOTALLY-HUGE-A-MONGOUS and the absolute center of everything in the universe to those who were immersed in the poker subculture with an intense emotional attachment to it at the time. I'm sure that was helped along a lot by by the explosion of television bandwidth with ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3... ESPN#698, etc. having enormous amounts of time to fill with... something, anything, that could get any kind of cheap sponsorship.
Gaming revenue reports broken out by type of game are published & readily available online & permanently archived for anyone who'd like to really look at what is being played and how much over time.
My impression of how it has been shaking out in the Las Vegas area: Crappy little ill-conceived and poorly staffed low-volume poker rooms keep croaking, often putting on some truly weird promos as their last gasp effort of the room's staff to keep themselves employed before those above them finally get enough sense to pull the plug on it, while more of the business consolidates at bigger venues that made more of a commitment to it as a significant draw for their property, and the best of them seem to be chugging along just fine. I don't view that consolidation as necessarily a bad thing. Some of them should never have been in the business.
Not so much because players could no longer play online, but because advertising dollars dried up, and TV poker started to go away.
Without poker constantly on TV, the interest faded at an accelerated rate.
Agreed. Or as those whippersnapper kids say on the interwebz nowadays: +1.Quote: DJTeddyBearPoker may have already been fading, but Black Friday had a big impact.

I had a feeling they would change this promo.
You now have to use both cards.
