For example
For simplicity
Heads up pre flop. Its down to the blinds,. The small blind calls and the big blind checks preflop. No one else in the hand to make it easy.
Lets say that the small blind , not thinking of his position makes a check sign tapping the table immediately after the big blind tapped the table. You know mistaingly thinking it was "on him" before the flop could be dealt.
Is that tap theoretically binding as a check in the dark. Or does hand signals become binding only after the flop in this case is dealt.
Does cehck in the dark have to be verbal by rule?
when is the hand signal binding.
We see it all the time when people tap the table and its not required because the hand is being dealt as they tap.
I have seen people vigerously tap the table before the flop and the dealr announces that its being taken as a check in the dark. Is there any rule that says taping the table can be binding before the cards are dealt pre flop pre turn pre river?
Is vigerously tapping the table before the flop "acting out of turn" because theoretically at that momoment its not their "turn". And if its acting out of turn does it mean its not binding?
I have never seen a beef regarding this....but was wondering if there is a rule.

At my Casino any indication of your decision, verbal or not, in turn or not, is binding. If you say you are going to call out of turn, you have to call when action gets to you unless the action has changed since you said it (someone else raised). If you give the signal to check prior to a card being turned or out of turn, you are checking when the action gets to you, unless it's not a check anymore.
If you don't hold people to their actions, they will take advantage of other players or information gathered because of their action and this can give them an unfair advantage.
