the dealer collusion was where he went wrong, I'm thinking. Probably at least one went state's evidence. Casino would not have easily gotten proof the contact lenses saw infrared light

Seem harsh but with good behavior he'll be out in 8 months. I'd be willing to bet that he never tries that again (provided he can ever enter a casino again).
