Hi All,
Can you explain what you feel is the proper etiquette in the following situation? Suppose you win 2, 3, or 4 hands in a row. How long are you obligated to stay to give others a chance to win back their money in a cash game without people getting pissed at you? Is once around the blinds good enough? Twice?

Are you there to have fun and be friendly or make money? If you are there to make money than you really shouldn't care who gets pissed at you. If it's social to you, let it go around once.

I shortstack games quit a bit and have no qualms about leaving and coming back in an hour(or however long the house requires).
You should leave whenever you want. Particularly when we are talking about playing deeper than you might want you should just ignore the other players complaints. I get to decide when I should play and when I shouldn't. None of them have any say.
Of course you can factor in alienating players if you like. It might costs you money to upset certain players, but don't confuse that with caring what they think about you.
Given some of the things that happen in live poker games every day no one is going to remember you hit and ran.

You can leave when ever you want. But keep in mind if you have to kill the pot you are still required to post regardless if you are leaving. Other than that just don't be jerk at the table and no one can complain. If you feel wierd about leaving just make up an excuse to defuse any grumbling, something like "I'd love to stay guys but I'm meeting my wife for dinner, good luck to everyone"

Having to post for the kill pot before leaving the table is not required in most places. I've never actually played in one that does require it and I'm not even sure if it's legal. Nobody can force you to place a wager if you don't want to. Would I play the hand if I got a kill right before leaving, yes. Do i have to, no way.

Yeah, you can do that. But if you read the fine print, most poker room rules discourage doing that, and may even outright forbid it.
If you do that regularly, the players and management is going to remember it.
Of course, the management and maybe other players won't care or even notice if you come back and sit at a different table.

True that they can't make you post. but they can refuse to have to play in their room if you don't. This is my own personel experience when I was first playing. I didn't know the rule but I ended up posting anyway. It wasn't a bad situation and I wasn't bitter. But it would be worse to not post and leave after winning several hands then to just leave after winning several hands. This thread was about not upsetting people, just one way to avoid it.
Peace.

Leave immediately if you want, no biggie. Now if its a small poker room using just 1 table and nobody on deck taking your place, still leave if you want but in that instance somebody might grumble but who cares. Large poker room with players on deck, a grumble would be ridiculous from rest of table. In poker, once you win, you are never obligated to let somebody try to win it back.
When somebody doesn't believe me, I could care less. Some get totally bent out of shape when not believed. Weird. I believe very little on all forums

Leave when you like, but as others said be aware of the room size. If it is a large room who cares. If it is a small room and the same crowd you will see again you may want to stay for another orbit but bet small. If a home-game you need to really be careful as it may lose a future invite if you leave too soon.

if you can beat the game and are winning then never leave. most of the time newbs will leave because they are winning and feel if they stay for an extended amount of time they will give it all back.

Different etiquette for a home game vs. a casino dealt game. At the casino who cares, roll out when you want. I doubt very much any card room or casino is going to ban you for it. The players might grumble, but who cares. At a home or "friendly" game it would be poor form to get way up and leave. If you really have to go at least announce once more around the table, or something to that effect.

I agree with what has already been said. If playing with strangers, leave whenever you want. If with friends, announce that you'll play for another 30 minutes or so. It doesn't look good to "take the money and run" from your friends.

If I am winning I usually give notice and play an orbit at any game casino or home. If I am not winning I usually leave before my blinds and have a look at the 'free' cards.

If I am ready to take the money and run I wait till my next big blind. While waiting I don't play anything but AA or KK and then slowly. A bird in the hand....

Personally, I've never left purely because I was far ahead, but I also almost always tell people if I don't intend to play long before play starts... and if I decide I'm going to leave I almost always give people at least one or two more orbits. I usually play in small home games, so in these situations I generally feel obligated to be friendly.
That being said, during those orbits before I leave, I play exactly as I would in an attempt to maximize EV. No soft playing or only AA/KK hands... If I see a profitable spot I take it, and I give all the players opportunity to win their money back.
IMO, it is good etiquette, but I'd generally never give anyone a hard time for it. It's not mandatory, and in a casino setting I doubt I'd care at all. In a home game, I also wouldn't actually care, but I know a lot of other players would. So as far as what I do, I try to have good etiquette in this regard, but don't hold others to the same standard.
IMO in a small game announce to the table one or two more orbits, or say 15 more minutes, something like that. In a big casino, get up whenever you want. Although you're giving up EV by not waiting for the blinds, if you don't feel comfortable with a huge stack then go ahead and leave. (Although you're gonna have to learn to play deepstacked sometime!)

You're at a table with 8 men that want to take your money. There is no need to feel bad about leaving once you've taken theirs.
