Sometimes it can run ok but man sometimes that dealer just gets hot and stays hot. It seems almost shady to me. And the bonus bet is such a massive suckers bet. At Graton Casino in California they even had the audacity to increase the progressive to 2$ which I found beyond laughable.

Anyway I would love to hears peoples thoughts on pai gow poker. Its a fun game... until you start getting crappy cards. And it seems like that happens more to you than it does to the dealer.

A bad run can happen with any game. It's typical with a poker-like games where you get paid more for better hands as you can also have a run of terrible hands. Also if you play sidebets then the effect of bad runs can be even worse, on the other side a good hand can bring you back in the game.

It’s the game I like to play when I’m waiting for Mrs Mosca to finish her slots so that we can go to dinner. Lots of pushes, not much variance.

And then of course I lose 10 out of 15 hands, with the other 5 being pushes. Damn you, Pai Gow poker!

Am I right in saying that face up pai gow has lower variance than regular PGP? More pushes overall, since Ace-high pai gows push, and you are pushing some hands you would have lost being able to set them differently.

Face up PGP has been my game of choice since they introduced it at Hammond Horseshoe last month. Seems like I usually break even. It's too bad they didn't use the same bonus payout as their regular PGP.

At most cardrooms here in WA, the progressive is $5.

The operative word here is seems.

If you arrange to have a beautiful young lady give you a great big hug and kiss whenever you lose, your perception of the game will change. Its probably just that you are paying attention to dealer wins. They happen. That is how the casino makes its money. So just enjoy the game and let the long term math do what it must.
