The Wizard talks about live keno and, for the most part, the horrible house edge in keno games. However, he adds, if you must play keno, then the Exacta Keno game at the Orleans (and their sister casino, Gold Coast) has the best payout and the most reduced house edge at around 7%. As an avid keno player, both lounge and video, I went to California for a few months in 2015 and upon my return in 2016, I found that the Exacta Keno game has been eliminated by both casinos.
Before people comment about keno having the worst house edges, I just filed my taxes and on the Keno games alone in 2015, I was taxed on $14,000 in wins for the year and those are only the video keno wins over $1,200 and lounge wins over $1,500, so many blanks are filled in by $400-$1,000 wins. I had $10,000 in 2014 and $14,000 in 2013. The Exacta game was good when you played the low numbers of 3 or 4 hits. In addition to nixing this game, the Orleans and Gold Coast (Boyd owned) casinos revamped their entire Keno live game payouts, which increased the house edge even more than before. It discourages play rather than attracting it. The Wizard is right with the numbers. There are no winning systems. Just educated guesses is all you can do with Keno, but it works for me and a few others who casually enjoy it.
With Exacta gone, the next-best live game is the Orleans Lagniappe Keno game, which is played for 50-cents a game in 13-game runs ($6.50 total) from 9 am to 5 pm and to win the Lagniappe bonus which puts it over the top for lowering the house edge, you actually have to be present during the live game an cash your ticket before the next game begins. If you want a slow-paced hobby of sipping beverages and seeing if you can hit some number, the Wizard also recommends the Super 8 at the Fremont, but it is a $15.00 one-time ticket, which is pricey compared to the Orleans Lagniappe. Gold Coast, though it usually runs the same tickets as the Orleans, does not have Lagniappe. In the end, Exacta has been nixed at both places.
All things are possible.
