The interview of Bob by Richard was an excellent show. It really demonstrated the advantage play in video poker is very tough. Unless you are dedicated you have little chance of success. In addition the return per hour is pretty small. The AP player has to depend on comps and sweepstake entries to show a decent profit.

You mean Dancer on his show?

William Granoff AKA Bob Dancer. Bob will throw down on some real thin edge stuff. He'll throw down on a dollar ten play at 100.2%. My problem with that is when do you expect to get a real payday. The flopped royal represents 0.12312% of the payback.

So, to be clear, it wasn't EvenBob who was being interviewed?

Dollar 10 play is $50 per hand. I think I've seen you throw around the 1000 hands/hr number before. So if you are playing through $50k per hour, 0.2% is $100/hr.

The real question is, do you have the bankroll for the swings? According to WoO (https://wizardofodds.com/games/video-poker/appendix/3/) a low-variance game like JoB would have a standard deviation of about 6.1 bets per 10-play hand, and a higher-variance game like double-bonus would be 7.7. So, depending on the game, you really want a bankroll of between $150k and $200k to make this play. It's definitely not for everyone, but if you have the bankroll and can't find a better game at that time... why not?

Of course if you don't have the bankroll you need to stay away from stuff like this or you will be broke before you know it.

Wow, have you seen Dancer's wiki page? I'd be embarrassed.

That article clearly does not meet Wikipedia's quality standards.

I can't really fault him for any of it except the hotel breakfast stealing. That's just stupid.

I know that Dancer is not particularly popular (from listening to his shows, I can understand why -- despite never having met him, I kind of dislike him) but I couldn't see myself staying with someone if it meant that I had to give up both my career AND my favorite hobby. Basically, he is not ready to just give up his life and sit at home and wait to die. I can't blame him.

As someone who has mixed feelings on Bob, and understands he really doesnt care what any of us think about him, I have to admit, I laughed at that one.
