I had a dealer get mad at me at first, until I told them that both the cashier and poker room told me that. The table was also very empty, so I didn't feel bad about it.
Thanks for the craps pressing tips!
How do you play on a choppy table? I had a good gameplan heading to the Casino on Saturday night but there were very little streaks going. I can be stubborn playing the Pass Line even though 5 people just 7'ed out in a row on the first roll after establishing the point (PSO). I go crazy when it feels like every decision I make is wrong switching from Pass Line to Don't Pass Line back to the Pass Line...I end up not betting on neither of the two and just making Place Bets...it usually does not end well once I make this decision.

Well...that I can't tell you...because in Reno...I just quit and do something else (be it play some video poker, or go to another casino entirely.)
and usually, I'll only press until I get to about $100 on a number...that's about my "comfort" level. (Although one time I did have $100 on the pass backed with $500 odds on a 6 and they MADE the point...don't think I'll get up that high again any time soon)

I often pick one side and bet a progression at a choppy table.
Usually, I work a Fibonacci progression and restart when I win two consecutive bets or two out of a series of three bets.
If I am feeling brave, I'll bet a progression that is more aggressive than Martingale (usually 8 bets to ruin), and I restart on any win.
If the table is truly choppy, I profit. If a streak of three occurs on the side opposite that which I am betting, I switch sides to try to follow the streak.

Quote: CrapsForeverLet's say I have $3 on every hard way and the Hard 8 hits paying $27. If I say I "want to press every hard way up by $5, high on 8" A lot of dealers press all the bets to $5 and try to toss me change when I really wanted an additional $5 pressed on all the hardways and the change pressed up on the Hard 8.
Should I say, "Press all hardways by $5, high on 8, no change?
This suggestion is a little late to the thread, but I'd say "press all the hardways, stack the change on the hard 8"
1. Personal attacks when someone has a bad roll. I've heard a guy mutter that I sucked after I failed to make a point both times I rolled the dice. Another time, a different guy was griping about how I couldn't make an effing 8. If I was a less tolerant person, I would've went into full-on dick mode and tried to pick a fight (I wasn't that far away from doing it, to be honest). I don't have a problem with negative reactions in general, just when someone's trying to call me out.
2. Don't players talking trash worse than Kevin Garnett. I played with one particular guy once who went out of his way to be a douche. Hollering the word seven, whooping it up whenever the seven-out came, etc. To be fair, the drunk guy across the table who was shooting was being kind of an ass himself, going through this epically long spiel before tossing the dice. I would've been angrier at the don't player, but it almost turned comedic for me watching these two guys go back and forth.
Quote: CrapsForeverI am a big believer in Craps Etiquette. I believe that positive energy fosters good will on a craps table and leads to a more rewarding experience and possibly more chips in your rack. When I am having good luck with the dice...I am in a Zen like state...doing the same exact motions akin to a player shooting free throws. Any disturbance of this ritual destroys my mojo.
CRAPS ETIQUETTE (PASS LINE BETTORS)
1) No late Bets (I always politely tell the table this before I start shooting).
2) No talking to the shooter when the dice is in his/her hand, this includes clapping in a shooter's face and requesting specific dice rolls.
3) No money thrown on the table during the roll (I always politely tell the table this before I start shooting).
4) Avoid placing mountains of chips in the landing zone of a craps shooter. This includes stacking 20 Nickel Chips as odds, come bets, pass line bets. Use as few chips as possible...use a higher denomination...just use less chips.
5) Avoid extended arguments with dealers over mispayments...
6) Please do not join a table mid-entry while the "puck is on" *especially if the shooter politely requests this*
7) Hands over Rails...please keep your paws behind the rail
8) Most craps shooters, even those that pick up the dice and wing them have a ritual..akin to bowling...a disturbance in their ritual throws them off-kilter.
9) Please avoid excessive hop bets when the "puck is on". We don't need you reciting a thesis to the dealer during a hot roll. Throwing 8 white chips ($1) at the dealer and hopping the Soft 8's, Soft 10's, Soft 6's, Soft 4's for $1 each, Horn bet...."cooling" off the shooter is not cool.
10) Make your dealer bets while the puck is "off". I can't explain this one at all but almost everytime I hear a bet for the dealer...the next word I hear is "SEVEN"! It happened to me so much over the past weekend that I called my bets "off", everytime I heard Dealers Bet.
I am not guaranteeing an hour roll but if we (Pass Line Bettors) all follow these rules...I honestly believe we will do well based on what I see in EVERY craps session.
CRAPS ETIQUETTE (DON'T PASS LINE BETTORS)
Disobey every Craps Etiquette rule that I posted and you will make a killing. I know a Don't pass Bettor who intentionally makes $1 Yo bets on every roll as soon as the shooter is about to roll the dice to try and distract the shooter. He always has his hands over the rails and drops chips in the path of the shooters' landing zone. He says he's been doing it for years and that it helps fatten his wallets.
Great list.
Thanks for the discussion.
Here is my list of CRAPS ETIQUIETTE
1. DONT BE A DICK!
2. BE NICE to the other players. Teach them with kindness and example...not mumbling or grumbling or side bar comments.
3. REALIZE that everyone can play how ever they want (within the set rules) and your superstitions don't mean jack about how the dice are going to fall. It's their money. You play how you want, they play how they want. Teach them general principles of etiquiette as they pertain to good table flow.
4. LAUGH A LOT.
5. MAKE FUN of grumpy people. Maybe they will leave the table.
6. BRING HOT CHICKS. I struggle with this rule, but maybe some of you can comply - it makes the game better.

I think you have to be a bit more consistent! If your bouncing from pass to don't pass every 2-3 shooters it will kill you. If you are losing, wait for someone you already saw shoot and hope they can redo their previous roll. At least your working with a little bit of history on your side. terrible shooters PSO CONSISTENTLY .

1. Dealers will take care of this. If the dice are out and in your hand, they will usually tell people bet is off. If you see the dealers are getting the dice to you especially fast, sometimes too fast to for other players to get their bets out, just wait a second. You don't need to get 6 rolls done in a minute.
2. I think this is common decency, as I've never seen someone clap in a shooter's face. Asking for the number is a superstition thing. The dice don't care. You think it is bad luck for you, the other players may think it is good luck for them. Personally, I don't mind, especially if their request is a hardway bet they just made. They're just cheering for their bet, nothing wrong with that.
3. This goes back to #1
4. I would ask the shooter to try to avoid hitting a mountain of chips, too. This is really just a superstition, again, not an etiquette question. If the dice hit the stack and come up with the point, you won't care.
5. It is their money, they want to get paid their money, I understand you don't want to slow down the roll, but unless you're going to pay the money the other player is out or believes he is out, I don't think you should tell them how to handle their money situation.
6. Agreed. I've seen many dealers prohibit someone from joining a game when the puck is on, telling them to wait until the puck if off, or telling them to pick their cash up and wait. This is truly an etiquette issue. If it is a hot roll and the shooter has been hitting numbers for a while now but hasn't hit the point, and if he seems an amicable sort, you can ask if it is okay if you join the game and buy-in. Everyone wants to take advantage of a hot roll. When I'm shooting, if someone asks if I'm okay with them buying in, I'll let them do it just because they were courteous enough to ask.
7. Yup. Totally agree here. I also think that if a shooter is in the process of letting the dice fly and looks down the table and sees hands over the rails, it distracts him. God help you if the dice hit your hands and come up a 7.
8. I can agree with this.
9. This is not an etiquette issue, you are trying to control them tempo of the table. Just let them make their bets and bet how they want. If you see someone on the table who likes to make hop bets, just ask them, "All hop bets in?" before you pick up the dice.
10. Again, this is a superstition, not an etiquette issue. Most people I've seen make dealer bets tend to do it before the come out roll. Dice don't care when you make a dealer bet.
I do think there are two rules of etiquette you didn't mention:
*Ask before you move in next to someone and begin playing. Nothing is more annoying than someone just squinching in next to you on a mostly full table. Dealers usually take care of this, though.
*If the puck is 'on', don't try to move in right next to the shooter and begin playing, especially if that is the only spot left. You are going to be invading his/her space while he shoots. Wait until the puck is off, and then ask if it is okay to play next to him/her.
Some craps etiquette rules really just come down to common decency, something that some people lack.

some=way too many
And if I politely decline, will that cause a problem ?
Quote: slytherI buy in mid-roll all the time (change only-no action), but I wait until the dealer is done with his/her pays from the previous roll.
That pisses me off THE WORST!
If you intend on getting in on the action and absolutely MUST have change mid-hand...PLEASE by God, GET IN THE GAME! (I don't expect a put bet, but a come bet or some place bets PLEASE)
If someone buys in mid-hand and NO ACTION, I follow the same..no reason in exposing my money to the bad karma when they won't...
Ditto.Quote: slytherI buy in mid-roll all the time (change only-no action), but I wait until the dealer is done with his/her pays from the previous roll.
If I buy in mid-roll, I have the cash in hand, hand leaning on the inside of the rail - waiting for the dealer to finish paying from that roll.
Then I'll hand it in, specifying, "No action, keep the dice moving..."
If there's a delay at the other end, I may change that to "$12 six & eight."

WHere I play the dealers ask me to change up f i walk up mid roll. I too do not bet mid roll and can wait to get chips, but if the dealers request, I comply, so it might not always be the players fault.
Another reason they may do this is they want me in on the action because I am a tipper.
