I rarely see it bet....well I cant think of anytime I have seen it bet but I'm sure it happens.....Here's the question, lets say you were at the table...a point had been established, and you were "feelin a 7"(ya I know its dumb and a horrible bet, I will never make)...how would you call out the bet to the stick man to avoid saying the word SEVEN, as to not piss off the superstitious people at the table who think the earth is gonna tip off its axis if someone says the word SEVEN.....

I expect there are several ways to get the message across. The one you suggested should work. So should, "Three-way on 'the bad number' this roll." Anything like that should let the stick man know what wager you want while making it obvious you don't want to say the forbidden word.

I have to tell this story about a 3-way 7 player. It was at Caesars about a year ago, during the late night. I walk up to the table and there is a player with about $200-thousand in chips in front of him. No bets from this player are on the table, a shooter has the dice and is throwing numbers. Finally the shooter makes a pass.

Mr $200,000 then makes the first bet that I had seen (remember, he was already at the table when I got there). He bets a $300 3-way 7 on the come-out, that's $100 on each.

The shooter throws a number. Mr. $200,000 sits back and watches.

To make a long story short, this guy only bet 3-way 7s on the come out, and if the previous 3-way 7 did not hit he increased the bet on the next come out. He sometimes made 3-way 7 bets for the shoote

And to make a longer story even shorter, at one point he was up to $15,000 on each of the 7s.... and never hit.

In about two hours of play, NO ONE threw a come out 7.

And in a related story:

I was at a table where a player bet $100 on 12 for 40 rolls in a row, and never hit. When he had exhausted the money he had for betting only the 12, the boxcars were coming like a freight train carrying wheat from Kansas... one after another.

So just to be clear, do the tables you play have hop bets?

Where I play the common vernacular is Skinny's Hop. Maybe that's more a midwestern term.

Funny how that happens huh? When someone is betting HEAVY on something, DOESN'T HAPPEN..once they go broke...BOOOM, open the floodgates!
On a similar note, I saw a guy sit down and start betting $5 on the zero at Roulette...He bought in for $10k...every spin he doubled it (it was a single zero wheel)
I left after he was betting $1000 on the zero ($5, $10, $20, $40, $80, $160, $320, $640, $1000 which was table max), I imagine he lost the entire wad...I just couldn't stand to see it anymore...

What is a 3-way 7? It sounds sexual.

I believe it is hopping the 7. Took me a while to get that, myself. $1 on the 1-6; $1 on the 2-5; and $1 on the 3-4. Would guess it pays 15-1 on the winning set, but lose $2 on the losing set.

From the Wizard of Odds site: "Hot Tip: If you must bet on a 7, don’t make the any 7 bet, with a house edge of 16.67%. Instead, divide your bet by 3, and put 1/3 each on the 1-6, 2-5, and 3-4 hop bets. Even at the stingy payoff of 15 to 1, you will still lower the house edge to 11.11%."
Never count your winnings at hour 23 of a 24-hour drive.

"Big Red" is the standard way to call a 7 without saying "7". Of course, as others have noted, there are local alternates. Personally, I'd shorten it to "Red". One syllable, could be someone's nickname....

On many tables, this bet is represented by a large 7, in red ink. Hence the "Big Red" name.

Not all tables have hop bet positions for the 3 ways to make a 7. However, on these tables, the big 7 is large enough to spread 3 chips, representing the 3-way.

I only played the 7 one time. A particular shooter was doing come-out sevens a LOT. So I dropped a buck on it. It hit, so I pressed it to $2. Hit again, so I pressed it to $3 - but the dealer moved it to the hop bets. (This table DID have those positions.) It hit again. I got an extra buck out of it - which went directly into the toke box.

It makes you wonder. Of course the casino has no incentive to alter the probablilities, everyone will just bet the other way, right? I sure would like to see the gaming commission check the table and dice occasionally.
