I'm thankful for sites like WoO and LVA. An educated gambler whether recreational or professional is a good thing. On a recent trip to the Casino Royale, players were putting $5 and $10 on the pass line with $5 odds. The table minimum is $3 with 20x odds! I'm a quiet player at the tables, so suggesting a better way to distribute their bets is out of the question. I just hope more people find their way to this site.

I will be visiting Las Vegas for the first time in late November. Craps is my favorite casino game so I will definitely give Casino Royale a try. However, I will not bet more than 2x odds until I see a shooter make a point or two. I like to keep pass line bet the same and gradually go up on odds where allowed. I also like to place 6 and 8, if it is not the point.

If you throw some tips occasionally the dealer or even the box would point that out (5 pl -5 odds). I like to play craps at the venetian as I like their tables and dealers better. I found the dealers at CR to be a-holes. During March madness I made 5 numbers and a total of 6 points/passes. I placed comebets for the dealers and talked the table into contributing odds... and made the point of 4 no less.

I called the dealer "chief" ( a habit I have) and was given a ton of attitude from him as he explained to me that his name was really andy or shiteyes or something like that. I do like the rowdy table that you can get though!

Our money lasted longer at Casino Royale. I played mostly $3 pass/come w/ 5x odds and put less out on some shooters who just didn't do well. It is great to be able to start with such a low bet and jump it up when a shooter is having a good roll. You do have to deal with the fact that low minimums keep some players in the game who you'd rather see leave the table, but the overall experience was fine.

The dealers could be a little surly at times but they were mostly fine. The tables got rowdy and playing there was fun.

Their slots were also better to us than TI or V/P.

We'll see how it goes next week...

I guess a crowded table that is only 3.00 minimum will indeed last longer than a less chaotic table at 10 or 15 minimums. Some people like it rowdy some prefer somewhat sedate, but speed of servicing alot of bets can be high yet still give you more time at table than a half empty Venetian craps table. A 3.00 table is always going to be bankroll friendly compared to a 15.00 table. You may not make any money there but you bankroll will surely last longer.

I don't know if isolated anecdotes about slots at various casinos is statistically valid but its generally thought that of all the Strip places The Venetian is the tightest.

The speed a dealer can pay off bets remains about the same depending on their ability, but paying off a $3 place bet takes about the same amount of time as paying off a larger one... More players, more bets, a little less speed to the game.

I like a moderate pace to the craps game...bets paid, bets placed, dice out, shooter does his thing for a couple of seconds (shake, roll them on the wall by him, set them, whatever as long as it doesn't take too long) and rolls the dice. What bugs me as far as speed goes is when they push the dice out while bets are still being paid and when they hold them in the center too long. I know some people are "speed freaks" and want a much faster game.

First decide on the limits you are comfortable playing and fits your bankroll.
Then find a place that offers those limits and has the vibe that best fits your preferences.

For me, I want:
A lively table, but not so crowded you can't squeeze in to make a bet or retrieve winnings.
Good drink service. Speedy service with a good drink selection.
People who are having a good time, but not too boisterous or falling over drunk.
Competent dealers that know how to book and pay bets without a lot of attitude.

I'm happy playing $5/pass with 2x odds. There are several nice places on the strip where you can find that game during week days. There are even more options at wider times found downtown. I could go to Casino Royale and play $3/pass with 4x odds and have a lower house edge. For for the extra $1 it would cost me in house edge, I'd rather go across the street and play at Mirage where the vibe would make me more comfortable.

Recently I'm giving this a lot of thought, as I can now get 10x free odds locally betting $10 on the line. IMO using generous free odds, 10x or more let's say, make the most sense to play if you shorten your session [assuming you don't have an enormous bankroll] to where you place no more money at risk as you would a long session at something like 3x4x5x odds. It makes no sense to try to use the bigger free odds and bet more than a guy is comfortable with, adding on to the bet with money you wouldn't risk otherwise.

Toying with wincraps on this with 10x, it does seem better doing the dark side ... even if just an illusion. No question you enter another Universe in one way: your focus becomes the free odds. Lose your $10 on the line on the come-out you just shrug a "who cares?", even if it is several times in a row!
