As California gamblers know, only live games with cards are allowed in the state per the terms of the compacts signed by the governor. Roulette is usually done with a wheel with cards which are spun with flippers like Wheel of Fortune, and craps is usually done in a manner which maps the dice roll to a card that is washed for every shooter.

However, last year Jamul went to a one to one mapping for cards and dice. So a die rolled of 1 = the card that shows 1 is lifted, 2 = 2, and so on. It's been reported that as of May 21, Pechanga has also gone to this one to one mapping, and yesterday it was reported that Harrah's Rincon is doing the same. The shooter has the option to wash the cards so that 1 equals something else, but most won't and so 1 will equal 1 by default.

Now, the state attorney general had ruled that craps played the previous way was not legal - https://oag.ca.gov/sites/all/files/agweb/pdfs/gambling/Num3Dice.pdf - and that stopped no tribe from offering craps. Once one big tribe decides this is legal, it is likely that all the others will follow suit, if only to eliminate player confusion when that 1-2 roll somehow maps into 3-4 and a seven out. The dealers also usually take a beat or two to resolve the die rolled to the corresponding card, so it will enable more rolls to be made per table, increasing casino profit.

Yeah, I heard the You Can Bet On That podcast talk about this.

Personally, I would have reversed it so 1=6, 2=5, etc.

That way, the dice don’t exactly determine the winner, but it’s still easy to play without referencing the cards.
I invented a few casino games. Info: http://www.DaveMillerGaming.com/ ————————————————————————————————————— Superstitions are silly, childish, irrational rituals, born out of fear of the unknown. But how much does it cost to knock on wood? 😁

Most of the revised compacts that came out after 2005 had a ban on games that used physical dice, as well as "roulette in any form." Most of the newer ones got rid of this. Case in point: Graton, whose revised 2023 compact no longer has the ban.

The question is going to become, is it considered a "card game" if the cards never change? If not, then how soon before there is a new version of roulette where there are, e.g., 38 spaces for cards, each with a different number on the table, and How About That, the cards always match the numbers in their spaces, so the wheels can have numbers (instead of the current method where the wheels are just black and red spaces, and two cards are dealt - one for red, and one for black)?
