I think I need a craps miscellaneous discussion thread too but I could swe that turning out bad so I will just share a little story from yesterday. This may become a Romes sized post

At the beginning of each month I take half of my bonus and that is our non AP gambling budget for the month. This month it was $500. I have played craps 10 times this month and currently my original $500 stands at $720.

Reason for this post is not about my budget but about how I got it to 720. I have been up and down all month but yesterday I was down to my last $200 for the month. I start each session with $200 and play $5 pass with 3x odds and 2 come bets with 3x as well. If I go below 100 I do 2x, and as my session bankroll grows my odds go up. My sessions are limited to 90 minutes, as soon as 90 is up I walk. Some of us do have to work after all.

So anyways, about yesterday. Started with 200 and was down to $20. Figured it was enough for 1 pass and odds, had 5 left so I threw it on the world. Come out was 12. Took the 26 payout and pressed the world to 10, replaced my pass line, and banked the rest. Next roll is another 12. Collected my 52 pressed my world and put 10 each on hard 6 and 8 working. Next roll was hard 6. I collected my 90 and pressed hard 6 and 8 to 25.

So I have a little come back. The guy next to me make a comment that I should play the field because thst is where the money is. The box lady laughed as well as I did. I told him I would put $5 on field and parlay it the whole way up just for fun. After 4 fields In a row I had $40 sitting in the field. Ok now we are talking about real money. As I contemplated pulling it back the dice were in the air. Shit... there goes 40, nope field wins. Now I have 80 there. The box lady looked at me with a serious look and said I think you should just collect and be done with it. I agreed and pulled it back. Then said F it I am near my 90 minutes and with 5 good numbers which were good odds paying numbers I am back to near even for the day. How about 1 more field parlay. Next number... BAM an f'ing 12 (only double). Wholly wholly crap. This $5 field bet is now worth $240. I pulled a bunch and left 75 in the field. Next roll.... hard 6, awww my field run is over. I giggle at the box lady and said well that was fun. Should have pulled that last 240 down. Then it hit me.. Wholly f, that was a hard 6. I still had the 25 on the hard 6. I get paid $225. All of those rolls to finally hit a non field but it also happened to be the point. There were some more rolls after that sequence but when he sevened out I had $860 in the rail. I played for about 20 more horrible minutes and cashed out at $720.

I always play what I consider a smart way and the one time I go crazy is my largest craps win yet. That will be the last time I ever try that stunt but it sure was fun while it was happening.

What I got out of your story was that you had fun. That's the whole point of playing any type of table game. Don't get too caught up in the logistics. My wife plays the field (no pun intended) and I always tell her you realize that's a 45% return. But, occasionally I see her win 5 or 6 fields in a row. She never presses though.

I only play the field when I play a hybrid cross. When I do 96 across I wait for the 5,6,8 to press once. If they all press once, I put 10 in the field and let it sit until it reaches 80. If it loses, I've won somewhere else. Once it hits 80 I bring it down to 10. I've won a lot in the field doing this on a big roll. Once the 5,6,8 are all over $30 each, I can put a 10 field and a 5 horn high 12 or aces. I've occasionally hit the 12 or aces when the field reaches 60. I net 57 on the HH and 120 on the field for 170.

Always have fun.

Good Luck.

I predict it will not be the last time!

Which is why you should probably not have given it a whirl in the first place. The worst thing that can happen is to have that kind of betting turn into some nice wins. Too addictive.

it's easy to see that you make plenty of all these other bets as well. So, really, I would just quit thinking I bet in any kind of way that might be praiseworthy, like "smart betting". As others have said, if you're having fun, go for it. Since you say you are on a budget though, you might ask yourself what the typical EV is for one of your 90 minute sessions. You're on a $5 table, so for 90 minutes and 30 come-outs per hour that EV might be about -$3 [only the pass line on come-outs] or it might be about -$11 [pass line or come bet every roll, 100 rolls per hour]. That latter is not necessary for most, so how about I posit that you could live with action costing you about $5 per session. Add another $50 in action on what I'm afraid many of us call sucker bets [say HE of 9%] and I think you can say you pretty much double the rent.

Now I'm not saying you shouldn't have fun the way you want. I'm just saying you mentioned a budget.

I rarely bet anything on the inside (e.g. I can go hours at a table without making a fire bet or hardaway bet even if EVERY other player at the table is making those bets).

Yesterday, I made a $100 hard-6 bet. It lost...just as it should 91% of the time.

on a select occasion I will do the world bet, but that is very rare. I do a self banking parlay on the hard 6 and 8 as well when I am up. I am ok with the horrible HE on those bets as long as I am up at the time or down to a last bet.

What a fun story! I'm like you. I rarely play any of the center bets. If things are going well, might put a dollar on all the hardways for the dealers. I cannot remember the last time I placed a field bet. I shy away from it here in Cbus because at Hollywood the 12 only pays double.

Nice run to get out with a winner. Everybody knows that betting the props is like betting a long shot at a horse race. It doesn't pay often, but when hit theysnu'll get you healthy quick. The Field is an entirely different situation. It's self serve, so the onus is on you if you fail to win or lose. It's totally in your timing...and I've witnessed some pretty impressive scores out of the Field behind short buy-in money....it seems to help if you are absolutely fearless as well.

Your OP was so long I contemplated not reading it. I had to take several breaks for food and water to replenish the strength to read it the whole way through.

None of my posts are little! There's always so much information to share... ;-)

Well I did bring a pretty girl to the meetup, and she seems to think my posts are always too long, so not sure how that weighs in here.
Playing it correctly means you've already won.

I just learned that my 2 local casinos don't charge up front vig on the 5 and 9 buy. I guess I should probably start taking advantage of that.
