Obviously such things are done to draw customers in ... and no one in Vegas is that desperate for players.
That husband wife team of dealers did a year in New Mexico and hated the lethargy endemic to the entire state. After a year or so back in Vegas they moved to Hawaii where there are no casinos and I believe they live as artisans of some sort.

Thank you for the reply but Santa Ana NO LONGER offers the free field (per phone call inquiry I made to them just yesterday)...they still offer the free 4/10 however...and, yes, I will be heading in that direction this month...tom p

Just sort of an addendum to the above, minutes prior to it I wrote this on the "free buy 4/10 thread":

Will Anyone who goes to Santa Ana in New Mexico please give us a quick report as to their Cash Back for Table Games program. How much cash back for what sort of play? Be advised your points you earn for meals and shows stay on your card even if you get the Cash Back rewards.

New Mexico update.
I am recently back from a southwestern car trek and --in fact prompted by this forum -- made a small detour to the Albuquerque area to shoot some craps!
At least 3 casinos, possibly more, in the area offer the free buy on the 4 & 10 -- a fact that by itself continues to amaze me, but also given the fact that in many excursions to casinos all over the country I have encountered this at only other place, turtle creek in Michigan, where it has existed for approx. a decade...
Santa Ana Star, Route 66 and Isleta Resort offer this no-vig bet. The free field--triple on both the 2 & 12--was offered at one time at all of these--and quite recently at SAS-- but is, sadly no longer available. I am still looking for such a bet!! HELP ANYONE??
I did not play at Isleta but the best deal in the area for the Tough Craps player is at Rt 66 where you can bet up to $500 free on the 4/10 (it was only $100 at SAS), odds are 20x and at least on the weekdays I was there they offered a $1 minimum bet until 6PM, when it changed to $3. My last session was late sun evening and the minimum then was $5.
The dice were extremely wicked and, alas, I lost my shirt...but that is nothing new now, is it...tom p

You want to win at Indian casino? Save yourself some money. Fly to Vegas or AC, these are other places only look like a gambling joint. Think of a dentist who does not know of how to pull the tooth out.

I did not. A secondary objective to winning HUGE (thus KNOWing <sic> that I will be losing most of the time) is to get plenty of action (a tertiary one is lengthy time at the table, often sacrificed on the altar of the first two!) thus I have been unable to resist the temptation of additional action of the odds bets and their prerequisite vig (the p/c bets)..However there is a casino in Michigan (turtle creek) that has offered the free 4/10 for at least a decade, homage to its success as a loss leader attraction...my experience there as well as in new mexico has been that the VAST MAJORITY of players bet the 4 and 10 no more-or at least not much more-than they otherwise would but continue to bet their hardways etc...There is a "pure" Tough Craps player in Michigan who brooks no quarter, gives the house zero edge, passes the dice...He is completely tolerated by the bank and of course 99.9% of the others at the rail are oblivious to him...tom p
