Quote: BleedingChipsSlowlyIf something is going badly for you at a table, anything, why stay if you are not winning?
I want to agree with everybody but it's just this is a game of probabilities. How do you know that the table you leave isn't going to all of the sudden get a lot better while the table you are going to is going to suck just as bad if not worse?

If you're playing a specific method, with your
own rules, it can make a drastic difference
to switch tables. That last table wasn't playing
'your game' and this one is. If you're just
playing randomly, as most people are, then
it makes no difference.
To give a silly example, if you bet birthdays
and anniversaries on one table and are not
winning, those very numbers might be hot
on the table next to you & if you switch, you'll
win. In roulette, obviously.
I'm with you Z. The dice don't know what table they're on, I know this, but when playing craps, I am ashamed to say, I give in the the cold table theory and leave.Quote: Zcore13I switch but I know it has absolutely no bearing on if things will change or not. Just breaks up the drubbing a little if it continues.
Enjoying myself is almost as important as winning to me. I have only stayed at one table where I was winning but not having fun (Bellagio, with a shooter who took a full three minutes to set the dice, make late bets then roll short. He was making numbers and I was winning, but the rift between the shooter, his loud mouth girlfriend and the pit boss was getting wider with each short roll. I finally had to bring all my bets down and donate my line bet to the crew when it looked like security was going to get involved.)Quote: BleedingChipsSlowlyIf something is going badly for you at a table, anything, why stay if you are not winning?
I look to get on a table with a good shooter and ride it.
Quote: DeucekiesI'll leave the table if my comfort level isn't where I want it to be. That could mean I'm losing, or another player's being a pest, or maybe even the dealer's being a pest. If the cards are going south, but I like the atmosphere at the table, I'll stay and continue on.
I will leave a table even if I'm doing well if I'm on a table with one or more players that are doing a crapload of hop bets. I can't stand all these people who show up and bet all of these ridiculous hop bets that slow the entire game down.

Late betting the don't pass are you? Or posting in the wrong forum again?
slots. He thinks it's still 1957 and a slot is
due if you sit there long enough.
1) There are people betting practically every spot on the board every roll and completely slowing down the game
2) People are continuously putting in late bets
3) People are trying to explain the games to others and constantly getting their hands down to table level so they come close to hitting the dice on a roll
4) When people are hovering around me (either behind me or right up against me). This one always amazes me when there are plenty of open spots on the table, yet some guy has to get up right next to me (especially when I'm shooting)
5) If there is a slow roller that is taking 3+ minutes per roll (you know the guy...dropping the dice back and forth on the table until it comes up with some combination, taking a minute to get the perfect alignment on the dice, or doing an imitation of "the thinker" as though he is going to will the dice into hitting a specific number). One time I was at the Palazzo and this guy took an additional 3 minutes every roll with his elbow on the chip gutter, fingers on the forehead, eyes closed, deep in thought as
though he has some Jedi mind trick going on with the dice. Then there was the time at the Wynn, where the guy went around the table asking each player what number they needed him to roll. Then he would announce what number he had chosen to roll. I kid you not on any of these (just too stupid to make up)
Quote: terapinedNo matter what game I am playing, craps, poker, pai gow poker, video poker. I never change tables or seats or machines. If things are not going well at any table , chair or machine, I simply take a break, go for a walk, clear my head and maybe get something to eat. When I come back, may pick a different table seat or machine but once I start a session, I stay in 1 place until I feel like taking a break.
This.
I won't stay at a table where there is nastiness. It can be between players, between dealers, etc. I don't have time for it.
and i have options i will switch.
Same thing on one of the those goofy cards games my wife likes, if i am on
a Flush game and doing ok and some sits down next to me so they will get
my cards i am gone, 4 card poker the same.
Thats one of the things you can control, what to bet and where to set.

A bad string of losses can be damaging to my mood and can encourage me to go on tilt, so it's a nice time to talk a walk, grab a drink, food, cool off, etc. If it's just a series of random, independent trials, there's no real reason to stay when another table (or time) is equally random.

Exactly. I'm almost always playing craps with friends and if they're at a different table I might switch to their table if things are going badly for me.
