This is what I usually do:
1) $10 passline + continuous Come: all max odds
2) after hitting 5 #s, I start pressing the # that was just hit by $25. I do this by Placing 6/8 or Buying 4,5,9,10
Now i'm thinking of switching to always pressing the 6/8, even if a 4,5,9, or 10 hits.
2 reasons:
A) Placing the 6/8 has a house edge of 1.5%. It's lower than buying the 4/10 (1.7% HE) and the 5/9 (2% HE)
B) I'm concentrating the $ on 2 #s so when it hits, I hit a homerun (ie: hit big). and the 6/8 has a higher probability of coming up than the other 4 #s.
but i guess Reason A (lower HE) is the main reason why I chose to the 6/8 to pour $ on.
What do you think?

Can I kindly and graciously ask where you got these House Edge numbers? Thank you

The figures don't match.....hence the question....

1.67 was rounded up to 1.7 and 1.52 was rounded down to 1.5 but other than that they do match up.
Quote: DeMangoAnd I believe the figures are for $20 buys. EV much lower if we buy at $30, $35(4&10), or $36(5&9). Which would probably make placing the 6&8 the most expensive!
FWIW these are the "details" that the Wizard needs to spend more time on. So many people still don't understand these things, unfortunately.
On a per roll basis (a more normalized way to consider bets if you bet more than one at a time, especially), 0.33% for a $25 buy with commission on the win is the lowest edge (non-free) bet on any dice game until you get to finding a crapless table that has similar buy bets on the 2, 3, 11, and 12.
https://wizardofodds.com/games/craps/appendix/2
Edge per rolls:
$25 buy 4/10 commission on the win 0.33% (missing from above table)
$25 don't pass 0.40%
$25 pass line 0.41%
$20 buy 4/10 commission on the win 0.416% (missing from above table)
$24 six 0.46%
$15 automatic buy 4/10 (commission on win) 0.555% (missing from above table)
$10 automatic buy 4/10 (commission on win) 0.833% (missing from above table)
$ANY place the 5/9 1.111%
Here in Vegas, if you find a buy on the 6 or the 8 or the 9 or the 10 where it's better than not buying it, let me know. In general this is not something you find in Vegas. Yet the appendix above lists edges that generally don't happen much around here (buy the 6/8 or 5/9).
Places in Vegas that offer automatic buys on the 4 and 10:
* Red Rock
* Silverton
* Fiesta
* Palace Station
Places that offer buy bets with commission on the win with quarter chips:
* Main Street Station
* Fremont Casino
* California Casino
In these properties, it's not automatic. You have to ask for it. Most people get paid $9.00 instead of $9.75 by simply not specifying that they want a buy bet. Those three $0.25 chips go for much more than $0.25 on e-bay as well. So there's an advantage craps play for ya. Pocket the $0.25 chips and sell them.

Getting this down to a typical player's action.....are you and the odds page saying...
1. If I place the six and/or eight for $30.usd, and I wait for it to be "resolved" which means wins or loses, and it pays $35.usd, the house edge is only 1.52% ( five/nine for $25.usd which pays $35. 2.0% ?) and (buying the four or ten for $25.usd($1.usd buy) which pays $50.usd 1.67%) ?
It seems in live play the house wins too much, but perhaps it's because I press too much/often?

Yes, except the 2% on 5/9 is for a BUY bet (typically only found in Mississippi) of $26 which pays $39 (minus $1 vig) for a net total of $38.

The more you press, the more money you have exposed to the house edge, so you are going to lose more.
