I usually select casinos based on their proximity to me? Do people choose Casinos another way? Do they choose based on recommendations?

I want to change my approach and start going to casinos based on recomendations. Tell me what is the best and worst casino you've been to.

For me I find it better to be mostly loyal to one brand since that gets us the most comps and freebies. Since the wife and I like to travel, the only national brand near us is Caesars so for the last five years we have usually gone to their properties. Now they base comps on longevety versus a one night gamble-a-thon so that is not for everybody who wants immediate comps.

Which one of Ceasars properties was the best? Ceasar/Ballys/Harrah....... Leaves a lot to be desired for me @ least in Atlantic City!

I often choose based on what games I want to play. But I play recreationally, or socially if you prefer, so finding the "best" game is not necessarily a requirement. Minimums can be as important.

It depends on what games you want to play and how. Low minimums, high minimums, what level of service, etc.

For me, the worst "casino" I've been to is any "casino" that offers only slots. There are a few such in and around Mex City. But I wouldn't count these as real casinos anyway.

So the worst is probably, for me, any palce with minimums too high for me to play. That would include the Cosmopolitan, Wynn, much of the Venetian, etc. But I like sight-seeing there... Maybe it would be best not to put any casino in the "worst" list.

As for best, I like playing craps and VP mostly. In that regard I give high marks to the Four Queens. They have 9/6 JoB and 10/7 DB. For craps they have $3 and $5 minimums (though $3 is rare) and 5X odds. Not that I bet 5X often, but I will on the 6 and 8 when playing $3 pass line/come bets. And the craps crews were uniformly good and polite. This also goes for the MSS as far as craps goes, but they offer 20X odds. They're supposed to have good VP, but I really dind't look. Oh, and should you make field bets, both pay triple on 12 if I recall correctly.

Binion's has the same craps rules as 4 Queens, and their crews are as good in my experience. El Cortez offers 10X odds, but, really, it's not as nice a place as other Downtown casinos. It's ok, but it's farther from the "heart" of Downtown, and I still wouldn't walk there at night. I think the Godlen gate offers high odds, too, but I dind't play there.

Also for VP I can recommend the California, as it has $0.50 10/7 DB, with the addition of a 1,000 coin bonus for a royal in hearts. At the D, you can find a full pay Deuces Wild machine, but it only plays at $0.05. It's upstairs, past that it's not easy to find, but unmistakable once you do find it. Just look for the oldest VP with a DW pay table printed on it. I think they have 9/6 or 9/7 DB, too.

I like PGP, too, but our own Paigowdan has spoiled me with his EZ Pai Gow game. I won't play paying regular comission anymore. For that I know the Fiesta Henderson has the game at $5, with Dan sometimes dealing it himself. I guess it's at other Station casinos, but I dind't look (and I went to the Palace Station twice... how sloppy of me) They have it at the Golden Nugget, too, but at $10 minimum, and I never saw the table open in the daytime.

I hope any of this helps.

Worst / best depends upon what you're looking for.

Of the FOUR Caesars properties in AC:

Only Harrah's is not on the boardwalk. It's a relatively short walk to Borgata or Golden Nugget, but you'll need a ride to get anywhere else.

Harrah's and Caesars are the nicest hotels. Showboat is the discount hotel of the bunch. Bally's isn't much better.

Bally's is attached to Caesars, which makes casino hopping easy. Of the two, you're more likely to find lower table limits at Bally's.

Of course, if the weather is nice, the walk to Showboat isn't bad. Hell, as long as it's not rainy or windy, it's a nice walk. Plus, the next casino past Showboat is Revel. Any trip to AC has got to include a visit there....

The Harrah's and Caesers in AC have a good mix of table games. They have 3-2 BJ and lots of choices. Their VP games are not the best on the floor, however I have never checked them out in the high limit room so I do not know if they are any better there. I agree they are two of the nicest hotels also along with Borgata and Revel.

You might want to mention you live in the NY/NJ area.

As far as Vegas goes, for BJ see the survey in this site.

For craps I can recommend 4 Queens (5X), El Cortez (10X) and MSS (20X). Plus Casino Royale allow sup to 100x and the Riviera baosts 1,000X.

I don't play roulette, but the best games are the European variants, usually found in the high limit rooms in the nicer properites like Bellagio, Wynn and so on. The Riviera ahs single-zero roulette in the main floor, but I think not with European rules.

Ballys seems to have finished remodeling the Claridge rooms, and not to that bad effect, either.
It is most definitely odd to see the renovation coincide with the shutdowns of the Claridge and Wild Wild West gambling operations.

I really enjoy Turning Stone in Verona NY. Low limits on all games, very friendly dealers, easy food and bev comps, though they will expect to see quite a bit of play to completely comp your room, casino rate is easy to come by though. After you play a couple times the mailers with free rooms and large match plays start coming.

Worst casino is easily Fallsview Casino on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. Granted I had my biggest loss ever ($1900, ouch). Table limits were way too high ($50 for blackjack, $25 for craps), dealers were all brick walls, all of the games that weren't $100 min were CSM, and even some 100's were CSM, 9 dollars for a small weak rum and coke with knock off brand liqour, hotel rooms were 200 plus, after losing 1900 with my play rated (probably 5 hours at 60-70 average bet), all they would give me at the player services desk was a buffet for 1, and even that buffet was lousy. Will never play there again, even though they now send me offers for 49 dollar rooms.

Before I start, let me say that Best/Worst casino is going to be based on individual experiences. What's good for you may not be what I like and vice versa. For me, I like a casino that is linked to another property, making play at any place count towards a single balance. Then, I look for good service, a good variety of games that I like (including 9/6 JoB, Tiles, Ultimate Texas Hold Em, Live Poker). Since I travel, the hotel must be decent and cheap (or preferably free).

So for me, these are my best/worst options:
BEST: Horseshoe Southern Indiana- They did fall down a notch after eliminating Tiles, but all my other favorites are there, though UTH has the awful Trips payout. 9/6 JoB on the floor, written comps that don't deduct from your balance, a good poker room and I only have to pay for a room on Saturday nights. Plus, HSI is a Caesars owned property, so you get the benefits of Total Rewards. For travel purposes, you're near Louisville, though about as far away as you can get and still be in the metro area. (EDIT: I saw this was posted in the craps forum... Horseshoe has 100x odds, and during weekdays you'll find tables at $5)

Horseshoe/Tunica Roadhouse, Tunica- This is probably your best if you want somewhere to go that is more destination. Tunica has a lot of casinos to choose from, so you don't have to be tied down. Horseshoe has one of the best Single-Deck games in the country, and Roadhouse has plenty of good VP. The hotel at Roadhouse is a converted Sheraton, which was always one of the better ones. Rooms should be free at all times, as is the food. (EDIT: Roadhouse has $5 and occasionally $3 mins with 20x odds, while Horseshoe has 100x odds usually $5 mins)

WORST: Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg IN/Joliet IL- You could almost include any Hollywood property, though I still have a fondness for Hollywood Tunica (see my blog for why). Lawrenceburg has some of the worst service you'll ever encounter, while Joliet table mins on the Friday night I went were beyond ridiculous, especially compared to Harrah's nearby. The hotels are overpriced and not that great, while casino games are limited. (10x odds at Lawrenceburg always $10 mins, 20x odds at Joliet, with $10 mins)

I guess I should have clarified... Tunica is in Mississippi. If you are interested in more Tunica information, read my blog... I have detailed reports on most of the casinos there. I've also been to Isle of Capri in Lula, but frankly, that would be a waste of your time... stick to Tunica.
