well, the Revel has done it again - I just lost 17 straight hands in one shoe - yes, I know I should have left but I needed to see if variance has indeed died at the Revel
RIP Variance - we shall sorely miss you

stop wasting you time in ac and come over to the mohegansun.
I BEG you!!! Do not continue playing at Revel. No way to explain it mathematically but it's not the place for YOU to play. For some unexplained reason, you have bad mojo there. Do not take it personally! Just don't play there anymore. Your wallets will thank you!
SideNote: I was in AC for a couple of days earlier last week but forgot to check out Revel.

Finally arrived home today from Revel - saw two people get barred FOR LIFE - the first because, after losing (wow losing at Revel - what a shock) he threw a full beer bottle at the wall , the second, because after losing $150,000 - a player yelled the C-word (he was yelling at the cards but the female dealer claimed he was speaking to her) (my host is this guy's host and apparently he is a big player trying Revel for the first time after selling his computer company for $30million - however, he is now barred for life)
In my 4 days at Revel, I talked to many people - from low limit to high limit and I did not meet one person who as winning - they all had, like I did, stories of inexplicable streaks of anywhere from 12-22 straight losses (yes LOSSES - no pushes) - these streaks would continue from shoe to shoe, table to table, or even within the same shoe - rumors abounded of Revel cheating (I realize they are 99.9999999% NOT cheating but, even a rumor thereof from a multiple of people could be bad for business)
I am in the throes of hating the gambling lifestyle ( as we all do after a protracted losing streak) - any words of sympathy for me?
hugs? lol
Don't play Blackjack for a while. Play some craps, poker, pai gow, shuffleboard, chess, etc.
Anything else...just go cold turkey for a while on Blackjack.
And for the 100th time; DO NOT GO BACK TO REVEL!

I think the Revel did the best thing they could ever possibly do for this guy: barring him for life.
Otherwise, he would lose all his $30 million within days.

Does this one help a little: I don't know how much you lost, but I am almost certain that I lost way more than you did.
BTW, how was your long weekend there? (how much down in total for the weekend?)

I plan on taking 1 month off from casinos - perhaps 2 months as I have a trip end of July scheduled for Vegas

That is very admirable of the management. They took the future loss of revenues. The first guy was a safety hazard to other patrons, and the second guy was out-of-line cursing dealer for his bad cards, luck and his calls. Dealers work their to make a living. No one should be expected to take abuse from customers.
Those kind of little things do wonders for employee morale.
Quote: WongBoBJ: PA not AC

I have to agree with Wong on this. Why are you playing blackjack in AC when a much better game is offered an hour away? I live in Atlantic City but travel into PA to play blackjack. Does this clue you in on anything? Does shaving down the house advantage by 3/10 of percentage point mean anything?--- Yes, it does and you need to be cognizant of what conditions you are playing against and what your options are, especially if you are playing for higher stakes. Go west young man!
The one that smashes the beer bottles... beer bottles? (Hmm... How many beers does it take to lose $150,000)... He needs to think about PA also with fewer beer bottles in his hand maybe? Maybe blackjack is not his game or maybe he should read a few books on the subject before he blows his entire 30 million. You can only smash so many beer bottles in a place before they start to get upset, I'm thinking.
They are not merely lying in wait for you, they will take anyone's money! You can chose different tables or different dealers. And of course perhaps a different casino, though it all seems strange to me to suggest that it is some sort of "haunted" casino.
Million Dollar Blackjack, I think, has something it in you need to read. Early days AC, early surrender, Ken Uston being the Big Gorilla.
Only called in for very plus counts. Almost all bet were in the $1K or $2k range. After a week Ken was down $230,000. His count team were all pro's from Vegas, all were very skilled. Ken said had it not been for ES, his losses would have been 30% higher.
Let me put this in terms that non-mathematicans will understand.
SHIT HAPPENS
If you are afraid to try the REVEL again, time to quit. You are beyond help !
Are mail order brides available for import to USA ?

Obviously I misread and misunderstood and it was two different people and not just one beer bottle flinging guy losing $150,000. Oh well, the story wouldn't read much different anyway... and off on this strange tangent of volumous eastern european women to boot! I look at this spectacle before me and say, "Yes, we have veered off the topic of you getting hugs." I feel bad enough for you that I'd send my girlfriends sister over to give you a back rub... Okay well darn near to that at least. I feel bad for anyone playing rationally, intelligently and having it not go their way when it comes right down to it.
I've had a few of those mind-boggling losses. We all have! Blackjack has wild and crazy swings all over the place and even the best blackjack players in the world are not invincible, not bullet-proof and can lose large amounts of money once in a while (with this being an understatement maybe?). If you are playing the game as intelligently as possible, then it will likely swing right back at some point. I say it like that because I should have looked at other posts to see if you are a recreational player, someone who plays often, any AP, etc., Aceofspades. There are "Casualties of war" in a casino, such as your 86ed temporary acquaintances... The key is to not become one of them! Hang in there and may some good variance happen upon you!
Maybe you should take a little heed to that whole AC vs PA thing. A few extra 10ths of a percentage point really do make a difference and will stretch your gambling dollar farther, especially if you are betting green and black! As far as those PA casinos shaving off a sliver of the house edge? Are they losing anything? No, not at all. They are raking it in and doing a huge volume of business! I have seen the blackjack tables desolate in AC whereas the tables were packed for all it's worth in PA during the same time of week. If AC loses half of all it's blackjack action to PA over gouging an extra .03% out of the customers, then is AC making an extra .03% or are they LOSING money? Well guess what, you don't have to be an accountant or a rocket scientist to do the math on this one. Availability of surrender option alone makes it worth going to PA as was mentioned.
Quote: EvenBobThese are both women from Uzbekistan. Your point is what..
Wow! Gosh golly even! Maybe they are from Northern and BHappy was referring to Southern? Maybe a poor choice was made in taking off on this tangent of parody as twisted and weird as it has all become...
Plus would you trust the Amish to do a piece of work ?

Of course, it used to be part of Russia. They all
want to come here to put you in your place and
spend your money. Will your current wife care?

Now I know why I did not trust Herman !

Carry the six...divide by four....to the fifth power = DON'T BE IDIOTS, MATCH PA'S RULES!!!
EDIT: Actually, beat them, but slightly. PA's Rules are a Legal Mandate, it would take years for them to catch up to better AC Rules!!!
Quote: MalcomDHI I just joined but I was just at Revel last weekend and HAD to weigh in on this. I was there last Friday-Sunday and gambled blackjack mainly at Revel at the 15 S17 table Friday afternoon, and Friday night when the tables turned to 25. I was on a roll, winning close to 1200 Friday in about 3 hours of play, I dropped in and out of the tables when the count went negative. Hoping to repeat that success my girlfriend and I went Saturday night, BIG MISTAKE I was playing the 50$ tables and lost like 300ish, than I was up 700 but than down another 300. Other people were getting WIPED OUT. Even when I was playing the 15$ blackjack stay 17 people were getting wiped out, this one guy lost like 500$ in a matter of minutes. I want to blame sloppy shufflers for this, Friday night tho there was a pro at the table I was on and he won like 6000k!!
Hi Malcom. It sounds like you played in pit 1. Was mid-shoe entry allowed? What level of heat did the pro experience if any?
Quote: MalcomDNo heat. Midshoe entry was allowed Friday day and afternoon on the 15 dollar tables, but not at night on the 25 tables. He got no heat at all. He bought in for like a thousand and by the time I left at like 2 am he had around 6k in chips. What do you mean pit one? I played at the tables to the right of the stair case, by the bar. I noticed that the dealers were shuffling the cards really really good, and were dealing atleast 5 decks out of the 6 deck shoe.Overall best game in AC that I have experienced by far, but it was only my 3rd time playing blackjack in a real casino. I've been learning to count using an app on my phone.
I know the pro you are alluding too and he indeed had heat as the pit was aware of him and later that weekend they began shuffling non-stop on him.

Yes, pit 1 is a sharp right at the top of the escalator.
I think in MD, the rules are set by law, 6-8decks, S17, surrender, split.
But what about NJ and PA?
If I can't fly to play in Aria's 2 deck game, what on the east coast is worthwhile?
Quote: hook3670I think Maryland and PA both have their rules written by the gaming authority. That is why all of their casinos have to pay 3-2 on BJ's.
Also why their minimums are a lot higher. But that's not a big deal for Ace though.
I don't get the VIP room having a $500 min table. What does that get you? Same rules, no free drinks even.
I was playing a $15 table there a few months ago and had some dude start running his mouth nonstop about how I "must be from New York, dumping his trash on his neighbor" when the count was through the roof and I stayed on my 3 card 16 vs 10. He had a 2 card 16 and hit it, of course busting.
A few hands later the guy before me (friends with the guy after me) opted to not hit his 13 v 7 "so that I could double my 11" and I pull a 5. I said "thanks" sarcastically, ended up losing that hand, and they both kept quiet the rest of the shoe.
