I was looking over the Wizard's blackjack section where he lists out rules and their affect on the house edge. I happened to see a triple down option, which is near the top of the list at a whopping +1.64%. Is this option based in reality (where is it), or a fictional "that would be fun" idea by the Wizard.

I doubt the Wiz would bother with an analysis of something, unless he saw it, or at least heard of it.
I seem to recall a thread here that mentioned it (or maybe it was 2:1 BJ). I believe it was a promotional thing, like for a couple hours, one day a week, or something like that. No idea what casino it was, but I think it was something on Freemont.

I had an idea that I'm sure I couldn't be the first to think of, but what if the house allowed a triple down ONLY if you already Doubled Down, and you could get one more card. So you have 11, you double down and get a 2, now you have 13. You can put another bet down (triple down) and get one more card. I would think it might be effective with a low 2 card total (5, 6, or 7), and then if you received another small card.

Sounds a lot like redoubling in Spanish 21.

You can find where it is in my Vegas Blackjack Survey. Yes, the triple-down rule is worth 1.64%. However they take away 2.27% by paying blackjack only even money.
