I said "no action whatever" and that would include early shuffles, etc.
Quote: JuniorWizThe new Hollywood casino opens in Kansas City, Kansas around Valentine's Day. Does anybody know if Kansas has a policy toward "advantage players"? One casino has been open for several years now in Dodge City. I suspect a ruling will not be made until someone gets barred and protests, but I am just guessing. I would hope they would have the foresight and fortitude to make a ruling in advance of the opening that no actions whatever can be taken against players simply for having a higher skill level.
First of all, congratulations as identifying yourself as an advantage player!
Second, if you've been to ANY Penn National Casino (Hollywood, Argosy) or ANY casino in the Midwest, you would already know that there is no such thing as an "advantage play." VP tables will be set low, maybe slightly higher than low since they do have to compete with KC, MO casinos, BJ will offer horrendous rules, with min HE's set around .60% and their poker room will rape pots by raking preflop and charging $5 a hand + a BB dollar (This could be $4, which is the area's rake, but count on $5). So unless they hire some bogus company to get a biased roulette wheel or you can find a flashing dealer, the answer is probably going to be no.
On a serious note, Penn National does have casinos that do watch players who they feel COULD be counting or pose some suspicious activity. One time at Hollywood Tunica, a pit supervisor left a screen up that I could see (and he encouraged me to look at, although was not around when I did) that told them to call the Eye in the Sky when I was playing. While I know how to count and I was playing a DD game with good rules, I was merely flat betting $50, occasionally raising it to $60. I suspect the warning was more due to the fact I won a car at the casino. I was never backed off (as that would be ridiculous as I wasn't counting) and I never felt like I was being watched by the floor staff (most of them knew me). I figure most casinos probably keep an eye on good BS players (Basic Strategy, not the BS presented by the OP).
And perhaps most appropriate to the thread title, Hollywood Casino in KC, Kansas will most likely be something else. The new models are based on Lawrenceburg and Charles Town, so if that's any indication, Kansas City will move up about 4 levels based on the look. Unfortunately they offer awful games and tend to bilk players. Argosy has a decent (not great) DD game, and I anticipate that game will stay at Argosy (if they don't sell the property off). However, don't expect a lot of 6:5 if any. The 6-deck trial run at Ameristar bombed, and Ameristar is the unquestioned leader of that market right now. DO expect table mins to be high when they first open, but they'll come down to earth within a week or two. The market is just too saturated not to offer lower mins.
Quote: TiltpoulHowever, don't expect a lot of 6:5 if any.
This confuses me - did you mean "don't expect a lot of 3:2", or is there some reason that having a lot of 6:5 is a good thing for the players?

No, while Penn National and Hollywood usually does offer horrible rules on games, they will most likely stay away from 6:5 BJ, except in single deck. However, in other markets or even other casinos, you'll probably see more 6:5.

Argosy Riverside has a horrible double deck game. Their official policy is 50% pen, in reality it is more like 45%. Last time I played there, they started dealing me 30%, so I just quit.

But the HE is .38%, DA2, DAS, NS, HIT S17. I actually can't remember if they let you resplit Aces; if they do, that would reduce HE to .33%

The next time I returned they gave me "heat" but it was at the craps table. My first turn with the dice the boxman bitched that I was setting them, I think I made two points and sevened out. Waiting for the dice to come around I pretty much only bet a few inside numbers and come bets and hardways for the boys. Next turn with the dice I made 8 points, 5 of them unique... I f-ing crushed them and the guy next to me was only betting green and black and pressing. The box didn't say squat about setting this time around and the pit came by to watch as well. I rolled for about 30-35 minutes-I netted about $600 on a $100 buy in starting at 27 across and 3x. The guy next to me made about 8k. When I finally gave up the dice the boxman told me it was the best roll he had seen in a few weeks and congratulated me. I colored up and left. In my opinion there isn't much heat beyond maybe trying to get in your head with a comment if they can. Plus the table only had 6 folks when I started and maybe 12-14 jammed in when I finished and plenty of field and hardway betters. They love it when a good roll fills up a table or a whooping it up BJ table draws em in.
Don't be a puss- set the mark if you are that good Lil' Wiz!!
Quote: JuniorWizI said "no action whatever" and that would include early shuffles, etc.
What the heck is early about shuffling every hand? Earlier than 2? No matter how many hands you play, when you do shuffle then it's earlier than having played even 1 more hand. There wouldn't even be a cut card. No need. How can shuffling after every hand be an action against either the player or dealer? What could be fairer than not making you ever have to enter a hand with good or bad count?
I think early shuffle means shuffling when it's in the casino's best interest.

They do not allow RSA. .38% is about as good of BJ that you are going to get in the Midwest. And if I recall, the spread is 20x table min (25-500). And as you said, poor penetration. That's why my initial post said it was a decent (not great) game. Decent in the Midwest is anything less than .50% with perfect BS.
And back to the original question... Hollywood Casino will not give you even that game. You MIGHT MIGHT get a High limit, 6-deck, S17, No RSA, DAS, DA2 game, but their cutoff will be 2 decks guaranteed.

I think the table max at Argosy KC is around $1500, not positive tho. As of February, the Pile of Debris in KC lets you resplit aces in their DD game, so that with the same other rules as Argosy that would be .33% H.E., and everyone in KC's DD pen except Argosy is way better than 50%.

Now I could see Isle being a "sweat the money" joint. When I visited in July (I used to live there and was visiting some friends), I was actually impressed with Isle's ATTEMPT to be a legit table games operation. They really upped the quantity of Double Deck games and got rid of some carnival games (which I believe included TCP!)
However, single deck (6:5) is re-emerging as an option in KC, as both Harrah's and Isle had tables. But Kansas will have different rules I'm sure.

KC Isle and Harrah's single deck 6:5 games have been around at least 17 months, maybe much longer for all I know. Isle eliminated $15 DD in February and replaced with $25, so only difference is there are now two $25s rather than one $15 and one $15.

Hollywood K.C. Is quite nice. There is no adjoining hotel as yet, but one is planned. The Speedway view is cool.
I have found their VP to be excellent by K.C. standards. $1 Triple Double Bonus is essentially full-pay. The dealers currently are pretty raw, though they did bring in reasonably experienced supervisory staff from the surrounding competition. Argosy is its sister establishment and they have created a joint player club card for these two properties.
The table mins. are probably above market for now, but I presume they will moderate after a few months.
