Is anyone able to ? I tend to enjoy drinking while playing BJ, and would like to continue to do so. But also would like to improve my game to a point of at least even w/ the casino, or even become an AP. While still enjoying myself :)

I used to drink and do calculus assignments. I can drink and count. Although I'm sure my accuracy slowly drops through the evening.

Then you will probably do quite well. Its the losers who think that the drinking improves their counting ability. Of course you will also have to withstand the Floorman's stare etc. but good luck.Quote: dwheatleyI can drink and count. Although I'm sure my accuracy slowly drops through the evening.

I would think the problem would be understanding your the point where your turn from being a happy gambler (that can still count) to being a drunk gambler (who can't add to 21).
By ordering a couple of drinks, you might even get less heat initially from the pit staff. After all, the pit staff know that real counters don't often drink alcohol. However, the big problem is that once you have had too many, it might be fairly obvious that you are counting, especially if you bust out the fingers and toes.
Someone's suggestion of doing Calculus problems was a good one. Still you might want to simply use solid basic strategy when drinking. And when you are sober, act like you are slightly drunk and count.

Yes, when testing myself I sometimes add some alcohol in the mix to simulate a realistic scenario.
But accuracy, per testing, drops horribly at more than completely trivial levels of intoxication. Of course, you'll never notice, alcohol bolsters self-confidence.
Advantage play doesn't mix well with just enjoying yourself, you have to suppress too many things you want to do, drinking only makes it feel worse.

I can't drink and play Pai Gow poker. Well, when I make a mistake, I know it's time to call it a night. My wife usually calls me on this.
I once hit a 21 after a few too many drinks. Luckily I got a 10, and got to keep my 21.
(it was a face-down game, so my dealer and wife didn't know until I turned the card over) Again, time to go back to the hotel.
