I think I'm about to ask a really stupid question, but I really need to ask. So here goes:
Can I sit at a BJ table with a printed card of basic strategy in my hand? Is that toelareted or would such a move get me thrown out (or at least removed from the table)?

I can't speak for all casinos but it is perfectly acceptable in ours. We sell them in the gift shop. When you sit down you can ask a dealer and they will tell you.

I bring strategy cards, not only for Blackjack, but Switch, Spanish, etcetera. There should never be any problem bringing a strategy card to table games or video poker as these are not electronic or mechanical aids. Obviously you can't bring a computer or digital application to the table, but strategy cards should be fine.
I don't think Blackjack tables would let you use a writing tool (Pens, pencils) either at the table (but these are allowed at Roulette, Craps, Bacarrat, etc).
If you do have a problem, leave.

I've seen papers with the wheel numbers on them at roulette tables, but I've never played roulette.
If they let you write anything down at the BJ table they'd be facilitating card cunting. I mean, you could write down each card that comes out, therefore you'd be keeping track of all cards that way. So that makes sense.

It depends on the casino.
Some casinos will let you put the card on the table, some insist you keep it off the table.
ALL casinos will let you consult the card, as long as you don't hold the game up, and don't offer unsolicited advice.
Why? Because if you follow the card exactly, you're only reducing the house edge, not eliminating it. If they didn't allow you to use the card, you'd probably not sit there as long as you would if you were allowed to use it. Since more often that not there are empty seats, there is no reason for them to encourage you to vacate it too soon.
By the way, those gift shop cards are durable, but who picked those colors? Green for Stand? Red for hit?

I would think Green means good, not green light to hit. Red would mean Hit, meaning action. Doubles are in Blue, which is better than blue, while yellows could be split (caution).
Just my two cents.

Makes perfect sense to me.
Green: That's the color of the Statue of Liberty, which stands in New York harbor.
Red: If you hit me in the nose, the blood that comes out is red, isn't it?
Blue: If you're "blue" you're "down"... as in double down.
Yellow: This one's easy. What's yellow? Bananas. And what do you make out of bananas? A split!

Could you also bring a copy of card counting notes? e.g. Illustrious 18?

I loved it how everywhere I looked in Vegas they sold S17 strategy cards, when all the tables I saw without exception were H17.

The only place I've had issues with the strategy card is barona. They would not let me lay it down on the table so i had to hold it in one hand while i was playing.

Lots of casinos will not allow the card to be left on the table. The reason is, in my opinion, rather lame. Not sure about Vegas but all the CET properties in AC not only will let you use a card. They also keep a basic strategy chart in the computer(same one they use to track your play...log in your players card..etc etc) and they will consult it on your behalf if you ask nicely. I've played there for 10 years and just saw this happen for the first time a month or so ago. So there you go. The floor person in question (bally's) even showed me that you can adjust it for H17 vs. S17, number of decks etc.

Wow, that's pretty cool. I assume the strategy displays are for their general reference. But I feel like a pit boss should already know blackjack basic strategy, imo.

I use a strategy card every time I am at the casino. I printed out my own with highlighting for KO and no one has ever said a word to me about it. It has no detail just the basic strategy with pivot point plays highlighted. I hardly use it anymore but it is nice to reference if necessary.

Yeah they know Basic Strategy, mostly....but like dealers they have some funny superstitions. The chart is there in case you ask they can look it up. Though again in 10 years playing there this is the first I've seen it. On the other hand, while I like to chat up the floor personnel (better rating and all that) whenever possible...I don't often ask them a basic strategy question(i.e never). The only reason I found out about the chart is that another player asked a question and the floor woman looked it up and showed him when he didn't believe the answer. I asked how long those BS charts have been in the system?.. and she replied "forever". So there you go.

I have all the BS cards, they are very helpful when I play a variety of BJ games/rules
