There are websites where speculators can go and invest in Daniel Negreanu or other poker players, buying a slice of their action in a specific tournament.
This is why players can bust out of a high-roller tournament with a buy-in of, say, $300,000, and simply shrug their shoulders and not be upset. They may have collected $300K from investors by selling them 80-90% of their action.

Most of the big name poker players are sponsored into tournaments. I know one poker pro that gets $1 million of buy ins paid for each year. There are lots of poker players getting smaller amounts like $100k a year of free buy ins.
At my age, a "Life In Prison" sentence is not much of a deterrent.
