It took a minute to run by the pit manager because I never thought about doing it but I wanted to... Is this the difference between late surrender and early surrender? They let me do it but I feel it might be something people normally do and I just never have but the pit manager even seemed confused.

Edit I should google stuff but this ISN'T the difference between late and early according to this

Early surrender is when you can surrender before the dealer checks for BJ. This is a huge advantage. The one that is offered by some casinos is Late Surrender, where the dealer checks for BJ first, and if he has BJ, you cannot surrender. You already lost.

I do not know of any place where you can surrender on a split hand. Surrender is usually on your first 2 cards only. The only exception that I can think of is on games like Spanish 21 or Super Fun 21 where there are all kinds of crazy rules to overcome the house's huge edge of either removing the 10s or paying even money on BJ.

Having said all this, there may be less informed pit personnel who will allow the surrender after a split.

Yeah, you got away with something. Surrender first two cards only. That applies to Spanish 21/Players Edge 21 as well.

Woop woop I knew it was a grey area but I’m all about taking every hit I can get so it never occurred to me that I could do this and when I wanted to save some money I decided to ask and I knew it was a grey area when it took about a minute for he pit manager to decide it was okay for me to do. She could have easily called security and asked but she didn’t as I felt she had a soft side for me as I always say hello and acknowledge her and she does the same for me. I’m there a lot so I can sometimes be like “come onnnnn”

Spanish 21 has the double down rescue that can be done on a split hand. That is the only exception I can come up with.

"Double Attack Blackjack" allows late surrender any time, even after hitting, doubling, or splitting.

However, it's a rare game, now. Do any of you know in which casinos Double Attack can be found?

Yes, but Rescue and Surrender are two different things, although similar.

True, but are very confusing to the average player, and even to some pit personnel.

Very true. I hear dealers use "rescue" and "surrender" interchangeably, and it's like nails on a chalkboard.
