Accepting tip$ from civilians

I've never accepted chip$ from gamblers before...until yesterday. At first, I gave the one green chip back to him because I felt guilty due to being conditioned to only take things that I've earned. As the night went on and the guy was betting big while back-betting on my circle as well, the +EV splits and doubles started to happen. I offered to take half his action but he insisted that he'll put up his portion on these table-max bets. After some wins and some pushes, he starts tipping me black chips one at a time. The guy is up after all and so I just start taking everything he gives me and thanking him profusely.
What are some of your views on this matter?

Exactly as you did it. Initially politely decline, but the second time politely accept.

The only other thing would be to tip the dealers as well. Assuming he leaves before you, you can then give part to the dealers - unless he was already tipping them.

I've been tipped on a few occasions, in Craps. Being an extremely low Roller, and given that these occasions were being tossed a red when the people in question were betting Black or High Green (or a Jackpot-like hit, such as the guy who started with a $5 Midnight bet and then upped the bet to $25 and I threw Midnight back-to-back) I really don't have a moral issue with taking what I am offered. I usually just ramp up my dealer Bets a little bit, in some way, so it goes to them anyway.

I got tipped a Green, once, by a guy who made a $500 Pass Line bet and I rolled an immediate Seven. He got paid, threw a Green my way, and was away from the table so fast I'd have had to almost yell at him to attempt to decline the tip. I would have declined that one anyway because of the sheer absurdity of him thinking I am in any way responsible for that result AND because of the look of total relief (as opposed to happiness or excitement) on his face that led me to believe he was likely still down...but I didn't want to yell across the place. Also, it might not have been a good thing to lure him back to the table.

My first time at the craps table was on one of the gambling boats out of Ft. Lauderdale. I was 18, and about the only thing I knew about craps betting was the Pass Line. I had never heard of "odds." At one point I made maybe 7 passes in a row, and some of the other guys at the table were making "tip" bets for me -- hardways, and pass line odds. I had no clue what was going on, but I had a lot of fun anyways.

Recently in Biloxi, I sat down at the 4-Card Poker table at 1st base. A green/black bettor in the middle of the table asked if I would change seats with him. Sure. His next hand was a SF! He slid me a black. I refused once, but he insisted. I didn't refuse a 2nd time.

I was playing a table game and across from me was a 3 card poker game. Woman was playing $75 bets. She hit a straight flush at 40-1 and it paid out $3,000. She gave another guy at the table a $500 tip! They were not related. He was cheering her on and it was a very lively table.

Damn right he took it and slipped it in his pocket with a "thank you." I would have done the same thing.

Back in the day at the taj when they had a big bac game I use to sit at the game just to. Make huge tips, they had 4-5 whales playing (20k/50k a hand and 5k ties- they would pass the shoe around in those days and guy would yell pull me a tie and I'll give you 1000 or get pull a card on the draw that made the bank win after the player had 7 and the banker drew/ that was the best time of my life - I would bet 100 every couple hands (min bet) and would make 2-3 k once every couple weeks in the summers -

Come on now, someone tipped you 4 black AND 2 green. No doubt this is an inside joke, one with me on the outside. if you won I send congrats, if you didn't, well condolences. We can play tomorrow, at the venue you choose, not really, you might be a 'rascal'.

Saw a guy at Caesars Palace hit a hard 6 with about $5K on it...he tipped the shooter $1K or $2K. Then the guy (big player) threw in a $25 chip to keep the dealers up on the hard 6. lol

One of the weirdest (one of*) situations where I've been tipped [sort of?] is when I was playing a slot machine. I was getting absolutely demolished, while the guy next to me hit two big bonus rounds for $400-600 each time, and he cashed out a little over $1K [started with $100-200]. He gave me a $10 bill and said something like sometimes it's a tough // the machines just don't cooperate. That was kinda odd..... But whatever. I said no it's OK I don't need it I'm fine....he just put it on my machine and walked away. Heh, oh well, free $10! haha.



But IMO -- for small amounts, I'd politely refuse, but if they insist, take it. If it's for larger/significant amounts, accept it with a thank you. And probably up the tipping or start tipping for the dealers.

I don't think it even really needs to be said, but I'll say it anyway for the benefit of any relatively new gamblers who may be reading. Whatever you do, don't solicit these tips. If they come, accept them if you will, but the moment you start soliciting them is when you'll likely be shown the door.

Some individuals seem to make a living out of taking tips from big bettors who get a nice hit and feel so overcome with joy they must share the wealth with those who were cheering them on. Why do you think there is a crowd of onlookers at a table where a person betting blacks or purples every hand?
