I recently found out that there is a casino with a decent game that is a 90 minute drive from my house, from what I can gather running some numbers its a $50/hr EV opportunity, I also believe this game has low heat so I could play a super long session without too much trouble.
But its a 90 minute drive each way, is this game worth going to?

3 hour drive. How many hours would you play per trip? Figure the price of gas and compare the EV with closer options. Pretty easy to figure it out. Add in the value of a new experience and store.

I live in Arizona. Live craps are not permitted in this state. My two options are: Laughlin--- 4 hour drive or Albuquerque--- 7 hour drive. I make the drive at least 4 times a year. Only other option is bubble craps at 3 casinos within a 40 minute drive.

I sure as hell don't miss that about ATL. You're a full 3 hours from Murphy though? :(

90 minutes? That is short enough for you to easily experiment with ONE trip and see how you feel about it and how your hopes for 'low heat' work out and basically how you do that time at the tables.
If I lived in Oklahoma, I'd save up my money for a trip to Vegas.
In fact, I'm in Florida where in I have a "craps boat" available even though its really mainly nautical slot machines, I have a small Indian casino 24hrs a day a short drive away and I have a mega casino at Fort Liquordale available as well as a mega casino in Tampa which seems to be geographically undesirable for any usual or customary purpose.
You can always enjoy the drive TO the casino, its the drive FROM the casino that is often unprofitable.

Might be 20-30 minutes closer to Murphy. Would be 1 hour closer if I lived NW ATL, but I'm NE, and the mental giants forgot to build any roads that run east-west here, they all run north-south. And I don't get a stack of mailers (vouchers) from Murphy each month, not yet ;-)Quote: tringlomaneI sure as hell don't miss that about ATL. You're a full 3 hours from Murphy though? :(
<edit> Google maps shows 2 hr 15 min to Murphy vs 2 hr 42 min to Cherokee. My fastest time to Cherokee, actually was from Cherokee, was 2hr 45min, and that was leaving at 3:00 AM. It's dealing with ATL traffic that's the bitch. I may ask if they'll honor my Cherokee vouchers at Murphy, 30 min is 30 min. I'll explain that would give me an extra hour at the table;-) Headed that direction this weekend.

90 minutes... lol...
For years I consistently drove 1.5 hours whenever I even wanted to play. Those were the closest options. Just this past weekend I was taking a scouting trip and drove 2.5 hours each way... Don't get comfy/cozy in your little nest; things could always change or you could find some amazing plays just around the bend. Always be vigilant and ready for new opportunities.

I wasn't sure how to reply to the original poll, so I'm grabbing a reply at random to add my story.
I would travel max 2 hrs each way to get to a casino(s). Several years ago, I was sent to Denver, CO for 7 days of training. My classmates preferred to hit the bars or go sightseeing. No gambling enthusiasts in the group. Not knowing any better, right after class every day, I took the only bus to Blackhawk, where they have 18 casinos. It was about a 75 min bus ride, but I enjoyed every minute anticipating hitting every single one of the casinos - I did, but I didn't play in all of them. At this time, I only played VP Deuces Are Wild, and played it very poorly, but I never had so much fun in my life. I didn't know anything about payback tables and the dozens of VP variations. I just knew the novice basics. I made it a point to meet the host/hostess at each casino I played (3 of them), explained to them my tiny bankroll, and that I was a student who was willing to travel 75 min each way everyday during my training. I got rewarded with "mini" comps, like a neat long-sleeved dress shirt, some lunch tickets, and some penny give-always. But it was terrific enjoyment for 7 days and made my training more enjoyable and memorable. I arrived around 6:15 every day, and took the last bus at 10:00 back to Denver.
Yes, I would do it again if I returned to Denver, but this time, I might try blackjack.

When you have no other options, your opinion of the drive is different. If DJ had some options only 30 - 60 minutes away, he might be more sympathetic.

on my own, no other reason/justification for the trip, not far, so maybe 90 minutes. A get away with wife does count as justification, got to keep the little lady happy ya know, so that can be hours away, a real drive, for sure.
I have driven 6 hrs+ to meet up with someone and play, without the slightest justification. It is a little nuts.

I would be will4 to travel as far and long, IF there was a significant +EV situation.
I couldn't imagine going out of my way to play something -that's EV.
If I happen to be going someplace for a different reason and thy only have -EV crap and perhaps I'm board or with others who want to play, then I can chalk it up to entertainment value. I just can't imagine traveling just to gamble on something that's -EV.

I only play UTH. I have a 30 minute drive to the closest casino. I go there two to three times a week. It's the pits - pardon the pun. I also drive 90 minutes up the interstate about twice a month. It's a very nice casino. They have a 1.9% Trips pay ($5 min) table along with a progressive jackpot. I never play the Trips but the progressive gets tempting when it's over $150K.
As another poster mentioned. No dice games in AZ and I love craps but not enough to make the long trip, at least 4-6 hours, to Laughlin or Vegas. And flying is out of the question. TSA and all that goes with it. Not worth the hassle.
