So Im visitingPuerto Rico and they have rules as followed. Stand soft 17, 3:2, insurance 2:1, 6 deck, 1 deck pen. However I noticed that the dealer will not deal his second card until after everyone has made their bets. There is no card under the dealer up card. Ex: dealer up card ace showing, offers insurance, but then waits for the player to make move whether it's hit, stand, double, or split. After that he pulls a card from the shoe as his second card. I figured it would be highly unprofitable even in a S17 game bc of the fact if you split aces or double something you will then lose twice the amount of your original bet if he pulls a 10. I was wondering if anyone has seen this before and how much of a difference it actually makes? Any insight would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

There are 3 versions of this game (Dealer No Hole Card) --

1) If dealer gets a BJ, then every bet you have out there loses (worst case).

2) If dealer gets a BJ, then every bet you've busted on and original bets lose (second-worst case).

3) If dealer gets a BJ, then you only lose your original bet (best case).

#3 is the same as US "dealer peeks" rule.

The Wizard did a write up on this on his main site under Australian Blackjack. It explains what happens when the player splits and/or doubles and the dealer gets a natural. The effect on the house edge is also included.

This is the usual way Blackjack is played in the UK and most of Europe. Sometimes you'll see 4 decks; and some use shoes or CSMs. Most tables nowadays will also have side-bets and Jackpot-like bets are beginning to re-appear.
