Thanks in advance for any info!
find out the rules, should be printed on it somewhere, then use the Wizard's calculator to determine the house edge and if you can stand it. If you stick with $5 bets anything under 1% edge is fine for getting started.

you may hear from other players that these machines cheat. This is because nobody ever seems to win, very unlikely to be cheating. The variance in BJ is very low, so that means if you sit there and play and play, you are very likely to go through your bankroll. IMO this is what you will experience with table BJ too, but you may be able to find better rules. Perhaps eventually you can learn to count cards, but learn basic strategy first.

Thanks for your input! Very appreciated! That brings up a good question. Could one count cards with video blackjack? I have learned basic strategy and it served me okay. I basically lost my a$$ and then bounced back and broke even. I left the casino immediately scared lol. Call me chicken.
I would like to count cards but I don't have the best memory for things like this. My procedural memory is not my biggest strength. That is not putting my self down its just being realistic. I probably should not even be playing blackjack but with basic strategy it really simplifies it and I full get it, so makes it hard to resist.

You can't count cards in video blackjack unless there is state. Quite often video blackjack shuffles 'the deck' every hand. This means you can't keep track of the cards played on previous hands because they are put back in the deck. There are some video blackjack machines that do in fact discard previously played cards, and those are countable... However, a word of warning. Most of these video blackjacks that do this only deal 3 of 6 decks, which is horrible penetration (PEN). One of the biggest factors of a game for a counter is PEN.
Don't worry about your memory, even if it's not that good it doesn't matter. That just means you'll probably need a bit more time practicing. For more information on "state", PEN, and an intro in to card counting, check out my A-Z Counting Cards in Blackjack thread.
