How are the ladies out there?

There's a fair amount of young good looking girls, of course... but I've found (at least right now) there's just as many not so good looking :p. I'm young and in shape, but since we didn't venture out to the clubs I haven't really attempted to talk up too many girls. I've been to Vegas a ton of times but this is actually the FIRST time I've been single in Vegas, so I'm not exactly used to being on the "prowl" here.

Uranium since we were off the strip all day I didn't get the day shot of the Belagio fountains yet, but I will tomorrow :).

Day 4 night and Day 5
The evening after poker schananagains was actually pretty great because I decided to drink and just blow off the poor luck. We headed to O'Sheas and sat at the bar and I played video blackjack while ordering drinks, figuring -.5% should hold me about even for drinks. Well you can't split or double, so not a good game, but I was only betting quarters and getting a beer and a shot every 5 minutes. 45 minutes later we're 5 beers and 5 shots deep... Nice and lived up for beer pong. My brother and I have played a fair amount and usually do pretty well.

We went undefeated =)... 5-0! We went sink-sink to end the game 4/5 times:

There was a couple attractive girls, but they all had your typical douchy looking guy on their hips, so again I just hung out with my brother and played pong. My parents came to have some drinks and watch us play. They're not afraid to throw a few back with us :p. So we got pretty sauced and I decided to flail some craps, in which I got punished for another $200 on the DP/DC. My dad watched as he never played so I got him to throw a couple times and it was pretty fun! He definitely was feeling it from the beers and after we ran to grab some quick (unhealthy) McDonals. Whom do we see sitting outside with a full bag of food and 4 waters at 3am? ...my mom :p. We also found this guy at the adjoining to table:

So we eat and head back where we find my brother passed out hard, like this lol:

So today we slept in to rest up, then my brother and I took off to some places on my "list" that had $5 games (since my bankroll had taken a hard hit). We played at 3 different places. The first we took it HARD. I dropped $200 in about 30 minutes at a double deck game spreading 5-50. No special hands, just 13, 14, and 15 non stop in good counts.

The second place had the "loosest BJ rules in Vegas" according to their sign ;). Up and down there but did manage a small $50 win, which was more for moral than anything since that was the first winning session in the last about 6 or 7:

The third place we went was nicer than I imagined it would be. We got players cards and got the buffet for $10, and it was an okay buffet. Armed with our small win and buffet, we confidently headed to the $5 DD -.40% HE table. Up and down but in the end we managed to pull ahead for a couple nice wins!

I made $270 profit:

One thing that still stings slightly is a TC +4, I had a 40 bet out and receive A-2 to the dealer 6.. Fantastic. I double and get an 8 for 21 with $80 p the table! Dealer turns over a 10 for 16, TC is +5.3ish, then pulls the 5 to push me! With that big count I can't say I wasn't a bit flustered about pushing that hand.

Finally, we headed back up to meet up with my parents who were out checking out the shops, etc. we decided to start off with some drinking games in our room, just the 4 of us. We stopped at a groceries store on the way back to get a case of beer at normal prices

and as that depleted here in the room it became obvious my parents are rather hammered =P. My brother and I are thinking about wondering around, who knows what we might see!

The badge of honor is true. Cortez backs you off in a heartbeat but doesn't go over board.
The single and double deck games exist so they can claim best blackjack in Vegas.

It is almost a bit surreal for me when playing here. Since I know the chances of getting backed off are high, I tend not to fret about it and just go ahead and play my game. It is actually quite fun and I have been pleasantly surprised at times what I was able to get away with.

Nice report Romes. Thanks for sharing.

I know what you mean about the girls with douchy looking guys (women gravitate towards the asshole in the group)
I have argued this point with female friends who say they "always go for the nice guy" - that is, until I point out the entirety of their dating record and the idiots they dated

I suppose it might be time for a "if you can't beat'm, join'm" mentality and become the "douche" women all love

Haha I'm glad someone caught the hand tucked in the waist band! Growing up we were all "good kids." Never drank, got in to trouble, etc. My parents could come visit at college and we'd make them play drinking games and it was weird to be drinking with your parents, but it was always a hilarious and good time! We had a blast getting them loaded last night =).

I'm heading to meet up with DJ Teddy Bear now, then grab the day pic of the Belagio fountains! Will report on some amusing things from last night in a bit.

I went directly from the car rental to meet Romes.

I thought he said he was staying at Carsars, so I headed to their poker room to wait. About 20 minutes later, he shows up and we head out - with me up $80! Woo hoo! Great way to start this trip.

We got the photo of the fountains then headed to Wicked Spoon to use the 2-for-1 coupon I got on the United flight. We had a great conversation, but only now do realize that we didn't play anything together. Wasn't that the plan? Whatever. It was a fun couple hours.

Great to meet you Romes!

Likewise to you too! I wasn't even thinking, if you didn't mind playing BJ we should have hopped on one of those DD games at Cosmo! Anyways, up $80 is a good start to your trip keep it moving that direction! Have fun at the convention/etc!

Ha, don't build it up too much! The last day wasn't too crazy...

Last Night
So I believe I posted previously that my brother and I played drinking games with my parents and tucked them in :). Then around 2:30am we head out and wanted to check out O'Sheas to see if there was still pong action, grab drinks, etc. the place was still quite lively and we called next on a table. Well, there was this mildly attractive but super annoying local girl that was just flirting why everyone and had the attention span of a goldfish. She was playing on the table we had next on, dancing on her partner, being bad at the game, etc. like 3 cups in she just walks to another table and starts flirting with the 2 guys (whom no she didn't know) and started shooting for them. No words, no I'm leaving, just walked there and left the first game. Then she threw for the other team, and finally came back but switched sides leaving her original partner a alone. So I hop on to finish the game, and we of course crush them.

Finally, my brother and I get on the table as the other team and annoying girl leave. Then, what can only be described as full blown "bro's" from So Cal come up and small talk to play. I say hi, tell them to hop on, and am nice as I always am to random people. They inform us that it'll take them under 15 min I remove us from the table. We just chuckle and begin the game! My brother struggles game one, but I manage to make 8 cups in 11 turns and we went sink sink (so no rebuttles) game 1 over =). Their girl with them was yelling at them for losing when clearly they should beat these scrubs! Ps we beat them by 4 cups.

So they demand a rematch still being a bit douchy, so I toss out "loser buys pitchers?" Somehow the amazing duo declined, so we played them again. First turn we did the old my brother threw sky high, and while they're lookin up I low bounce. Sink sink, 3 cups, balls back, and their spirits already visibly crushed lol. My brother stepped it up and we crushed them by 8 cups the 2nd game :p. We retain our undefeated record in Vegas at 7-0 =D.

Time to walk the strip and drink a little more! We walk up to Cosmo since I've never been there and walked through. It was VERY nice and obviously pricey as $25 min was through the house (except two tables at the non main pit):

Only other notable thing on the way back was these two cute girls approached me and their starting line was the more outspoken of the two telling me her friend (whom seemed and reacted quite quiet and innocent) was a "Can't Understand Normal Thinking, C*NT!" In hindsight this was a golden opportunity as they were also drunk and trying to start a conversation/etc, but I was very drunk, and it was nearly 6am, so unfortunately we parted ways and headed home. I told you I'm not used to being single in this town and my radar was just off I guess!

Final Day
Since I got to bed at 7am, I slept till about 12:30pm... Well, as denoted above I then met up with DJTeddyBear. We indeed had a good conversation, a few forums names were dropped, and the lunch buffet at Cosmo was pretty good:

Yes, we also stopped by the Belagio water fountains =):

Since I was exhausted I headed back to the room and ended up napping! I headed out to my drop my rental car off and hit the airport, which is where I am now. Our flight was delayed due to the crew being delayed on another flight, but 45 min later we're boarding now. Oh, and some entertainment while we wait some guy next gate down was yelling and screaming, so security came running in to tackle/wheelchair handcuf him and take him away:

This will conclude my trip! I hope everyone enjoyed it even though this was my 2nd losing trip ever to Vegas =/. Overall, down about $2K. Guess I'll take my lumps and do it again another weekend =).

Great report, Romes! I can't imagine you missed anything on the 2 grrrrls...ewww. DJTB's a good forum ambassador; glad you got to meet him. (Hi, Dave!)

Nothing like being a pro pong player; makes me laugh to think of it. Which meant something else entirely in the '70's. Atari and all....lol. I don't know what a "Full-blown California Bro" is; perhaps you can PM me? Sorry to sound like such a dodder.

It also never occurred to me that you could be incredibly efficient in arresting someone to forcibly bind them into a wheelchair, which are all over airports anyway. What a smart idea! Much better than dragging or even forcing them to walk with you.

Thanks! And indeed Dave was definitely a nice guy. I really wish I could have been there next week for the G2E, meetup, etc!

Hey, I played pong on the Atari =). I'm a younger guy, but that was still within my timeline =p. "Full-blown California Bro" is when someone thinks they're better than the world and they're dicks about it. When I think full blown bro, I think tight Affliction t-shirts, gold necklaces/chains, gelled up hair, visibly been tanning way too much, and the personality is semi-surfer/semi-asshole where they tell you how much better than you they are in everything and use the word "bro" or "brah" a ton. This almost exactly sums up these two guys... I don't normally care for really 'beating people.' The night before we went 5-0 and it was just a good time; I even bought a shot for one of the guys on the other team after our last game. These guys just needed beaten I guess; I'm not a fan of asshole bro's.

I agree about the wheelchair! Had his wrists and ankles cuffed and then just were wheeling him around like a 90 year old. My hometown (had a direct flight), decided to clap and cheer for the arrest =P.

sooo, I have never played beer pong. How does it work at O'Sheas? Do they have a few tables and you just kinda call next like pool in a bar? The point of the game is to sink a ball in the cup and then the other team has to drink the contents of the cup? Who fills up the cups and do they charge you for it?

I was never a partier until later in 20s so I missed some of the college type games.

Health departments have cracked down on that so now the cups contain water. Often the game is played for points. Traditionalists still chug beer - but poured from a pitcher into other cups.

It might depend where you are and who you're with, just as in blackjack and casino's rules can change... When I very rarely played with my friends at my house we would use water cups in my garage as I didn't want beer spilt all over.

At O'Sheas they have 6 or 7 tables set up. You can get clean cups from either one of the two bars on opposite sides of the room. There's ping pong balls everywhere, so those shouldn't be too hard to find either. I made sure we got a water cup from the bartender as well, as to clean the balls before throwing them since they bounce around on the floor. Basically, you just ask if anyone has next, and call next on a table. You go buy a pitcher of beer (I think this was quite expensive actually, like $25 - we didn't do this - we had beers from video poker and just bought 2 beers for each game as that's what a standard game consists of). We also don't mind playing loser buys, where the losing team buys 2 beers for the winning team to play with next. Now with your beer and cups ready, you wait for the game in progress to end. Then you hop on and play. Winners keep the table and can continue playing until they lose or no longer want to.

It seemed standard practice to play more traditionally there, with beer in the cups. Here's a quick breakdown of how the game is played with "standard" rules:
1) 10 cups in 4 rows from the back of the table (4, 3, 2, 1) filled 1/3, or so, with beer. (use 2 beers and level the cups out)
2) Each team selects 1 member to throw "eye for an eye" to determine who goes first. This is where the two people will look at each other, not the cups, and both throw at the same time. If one makes and the other does not, then the team of the one that made it goes first. If both miss, the other teammates do the same thing until someone makes it and wins first turn. If you're joining a table where someone else just won, then it's considered "their" table and they get the first throw. If you're ever betting the first game should always start with "eye for an eye" though.
3) Both teammates throw their balls and try to sink them in the other teams cups. When a cup is made, it is removed from the table.
4) Generally most people play "death cup." This is where if I make a cup and you're holding it in your hand instead of drinking it immediately, if I can shoot it in to the cup you're holding then it's game over. This again encourages immediately drinking the made cup (which you trade off one at a time with your partner for drinking).
5) You may bounce the ball at the cups. If you bounce the ball and it goes in a cup it's worth 2 cups, the 2nd cup which is chosen by the bouncing team. However, if you bounce the ball, the other team may "swat" or block the shot. This is where you have to be clever/tricky on your timing. This is why my brother and I developed the high throw / low bounce a long time ago. He throws the ball way higher than a normal shot in the air, still trying to make it, and while their heads are tilted up watching his ball float through the air I quickly bounce and attempt to keep the ball low and flat so they can't swat it.
6) If both teammates make cups (from either throwing or bouncing) then they get another turn immediately. This is also commonly called "balls back."
7) At the end of the game if there's 1 or 2 cups left on the opposing side and both teammates make the both cups (or both make the same cup if there's only one left) then the game is over with no chance for the other team to "rebuttal" and try to stay in the game.
8) If there is 1 cup left and only one of two teammates makes it, the other team gets one chance each to make ANY cup still on your side. If either of them makes just one cup their turn is over, but they are no longer in danger of losing the game (unless you make the last cup again). It should be noted that any cup made as a "rebuttal" is NOT removed from the table as that was just for them to stay in the game and does not count as a regular made cup.
9) At the beginning of any turn either team is allowed 1 "re-rack" per game. This is where you can tell the other team to re-arrange and re-poisition your remaining cups to help you have a better chance at making them. Common practice is you can not re-rack after you get "balls back" because it's the middle of your turn as the other team doesn't get to go. For example, my brother and I like to take a straight line of 4 cups when we get down to 4 cups left. This is because we also like to throw darts, so we can throw the balls fairly straight. Having the cups in a line makes it pretty easy for us to make them; it's just adjusting power after that.

It's a really fun game at any age. My parents even enjoy playing from time to time. I played a lot in college and rarely play anymore, but just as it was then when I have at least 6-8 beers in me is when I'm on top of my game =P.
Playing it correctly means you've already won.

Hi Babs! See ya tomorrow!

You've never watched Clark County Detention Center? Okay it's not gambling, but it is Vegasy goodness.

They have what is essentially a metal furniture dolly with a backrest with a couple of hooks so they can easily strap down and restrain the perp. Sometimes they'll even put a gauze bag over the perp's head to prevent spitting.

At the airport? Wheelchairs? No brainer.

Romes,

I must be brain-dead. I'm really good at instructions, but I'm totally lost. Maybe it's something that's much easier to "get" by watching/playing. I'm assuming it's like any other game, designed to make you drink whenever possible...lol.

Can you quote something from a thread and transfer it to another thread...for future reference?

Equivocal answer; yes. From this board or WoO sites generally, especially if it adds to the second thread's conversation. Sparingly and with attribution from other boards. There comes a point where you could be spamming or trolling by doing so repeatedly. Which has happened a couple times and required moderation.

Obviously, this would only be done if a humorous situation presented itself. ;)
