Is the cover the result of an inaccuracy, or is it marketing through symbolism?

In reading Beat The Dealer I think I got a pretty good idea of the kind of person Dr. Thorp was. And I don't believe that he would have presented a distortion of the game of blackjack in a cover photo for the purpose of symbolism or marketing. This would not have any appeal for him. The game of blackjack and the pure mathematical tenents by which it can be beaten are the foundation of the book's success. The original cover for the book was different, I believe, when it was first written in 1962. The cover photo inaccuracy in the 1966 update is, I would surmise, an over site by a cover artist and/or photographer with a less than discerning knowledge of the game. A rush to press due to the success of the first edition? Perhaps.
