So no more Revel for Ace?

How many decks ace, if you know?
That is a 0.33% H/A game, not bad in these days and times.
In my opinion, good for the Nugget, they are obviously trying to attract more players by offering more liberal rules. The only issue I would have is that AC casinos aren't allowed to back anybody off playing for counting. Wonder if they have an alternative way of dealing with this issue? Penetration perhaps?
Counter intuitive but OK :)
Quote: IbeatyouracesHalf shoed, flat bet, etc.
Understood, I was more thinking along the lines of something we hadn't thought of yet (which seems highly unlikely).
Flat betting is by far the easiest way to stop a counter and also the easiest way of getting him to color up and get the hell out of dodge :)
I would never limit penetration. I would much rather deal more hands per hour than worry about the card counters beating me.

I hear that the Borgata is also considering it. It's a step in the right direction but penetration will be the key.
Foxwoods is two hours from NYC and has that game with 80% to 85% pen.

Well the current comps I get at revel more than make up for the difference surrender brings...
However...if hard rock should buy revel and close it for 3 months...GN would probably get my play with these rules

Speed Count may throw off a skills check but not all casinos are going to tolerate the lifetime wins that you post at Revel, not to mention that those S17 games could become counter traps.

I am surprised that Borgata would not be your new destination. It seems to be the place with the most going on from what I have read.
Are their BJ games that bad, or does your action not get you enough attention there?
I have no personal experience with Borgata, since it opened after I had already swore to never set foot in AC again.

The B's high limit pit as well as one on the main floor both have the exact same six deck game as Revel. The latter has $25 minimums. Although surrender hasn't been offered in AC lately it wasn't that long ago that it would be granted to certain players upon request at some casinos. Since players are supposed to be clueless that could and did draw unwanted attention.

Well if I am going to have to start from scratch as a player (ie new player card...host...etc) why not begin anew at a casino that offers surrender...that would be my reason to choose the GN

Is the GN on the same class level as Revel and Borgata? Or does that not matter to you?
Back when people were trying to convince you that PA would be a better place for you to play BJ, I got the impression that the atmosphere and ambiance of the casino was important to you.
What kind of offers can you expect from GN as compared to Borgata? Will the free play, shows, room, and food comps be comparable, or does one have an advantage?
I'm not sure why I am even asking, I have no skin in the game. LOL
I guess it is because I love reading your AC reports, and there was a certain suspense as to what stupid thing Revel was going to do to you next. So if you do end up changing casinos, I want the next place to have exciting things for you to report on, outside of the standard BJ reports.

To be honest, I do not know what the differences are between Borgata and GN as far as comps go. I was basing the situation on having to start from scratch. Although, I suppose I could ask around and find a host at each location and take a weekend trip to both, then compare the rooms, playing conditions, atmosphere, etc.
I am sure that almost any casino will have its share of gossip and exciting things to report on!

Ace, Borgata and Golden Nugget couldn't be more different.
Bluntly, the Golden Nugget is a shithole. Even after the "renovation" two years ago, it's got a small, cramped casino floor. It's also probably the smokiest casino floor in AC. Last time I was there, I would peg the median age of a Golden Nugget patron at about 68, and a Golden Nugget waitress at about 66. I stayed in a room once there after the renovation and it was disgusting. In retrospect, I would have been better off sleeping in my car.
If you liked the modern aesthetics and atmosphere of Revel, Golden Nugget is like visiting your grandma. I think they even give out Werther's Originals on the casino floor. The only thing the Revel and the GN have in common is that nowadays both casinos are mostly empty.
If you played at GN at your black-chip level, you'd probably be one of their biggest players, and you'd get all kinds of personalized attention and have the run of the place. But what is that going to get you? Front row tickets at an Andy Williams concert, or whoever they are bringing in next to wow the Social Security crowd?
Borgata, on the other hand, is the nicest casino on the East Coast, at least in my opinion. If you said comps are important to you, I think it would be worthwhile for you to play at a property that has something worth giving you. Even the basic rooms at Borgata are very nice, and the restaurant and nightclub selection can't be beat. If you like casino floors filled with beautiful young women and an exciting buzz, Borgata is also far and away the leader in AC.
At Borgata, you wouldn't be considered a particularly big blackjack player, but you'd still easily qualify for a room and meals whenever you wanted them.
If it's important to you to be a big fish in a small pond, you can't beat Golden Nugget. But I wouldn't voluntarily spend my free time there.

Oh, I have not been to GN since they took over…I thought everything was redone and redecorated like new…apparently they retained the Trump Marina crowd?
I have no illusions as to what level player I would be at Borgata as I am sure there are plenty of black chip players there…
As for having beautiful young women parading around - what good does that do me? They are likely all juiciejennies or freakyfrans or take your pic of any such other moniker
I do like a classy casino with nice decor though - so, I will have to see what happens at Revel if they are purchased and the new owners close for any length of time for redecorating…
My other option is to just take that time off
Quote: 1BBI seem to remember ace posting that he had an issue or issues with the B. Is that still the case, ace?
Years ago, before I really knew anything about playing BJ, I had an incident at the B. with a dealer and pit boss and vowed to never play there again…but, whether they are still working there is a mystery
Ace I don't know what Soda is talking about. GN is just fine the suites are very modern and nice (not as nice as revel) Casino looks and feels just fine, I dint notice any smoke. Charter house restaurant is very good.Quote: aceofspadesOh, I have not been to GN since they took over…I thought everything was redone and redecorated like new…apparently they retained the Trump Marina crowd?

What is it about AC that brings out this type of resolve? I have had the occasional issue with a dealer or rating or what have you in lots of other places, but only in AC did I have the experience that made me vow to never return.
Quote: AxelWolfThey have a mid week night club there, lots of decent girls running around, I even played next to a 9.25 one night.
Wow, what sort of rating system do you use that differentiates by .25 of a point? Was there a misplaced freckle?
Quote: hook3670Raleigh, what happened that you swore off a whole city? I mean I have had a few unpleasant experiences in a few places, but those are usually isolated and don't repeat themselves.
With no disrespect to any NJ members on the forum....
I lived in PA, in an area that had a lot of NJ summer folks. I guess the bet way to put it is there is a certain attitude from many NJ folks, one that just rubs me the wrong way. I think it is like an accent, you don't even realize you have it.
In any event, on one weekend trip I had a major issue with one casino over the way they jerked us around on their craps tables, "way past sweat the money moves". So we left, only to get to the next casino and have the cockiest a**hole dealer on the planet. That was the end of it. I quit playing with about 18 hours left in the trip, and have never been back.
Even when I was seriously jonesing for a craps game, I would not consider AC. And now, it is not a problem. I have to travel 5 hours, but I can get to a number of craps games. Funny thing is, I am not alone. In our junket group I have found a number of other players who will never go back to AC, and some are so upset that their files are marked "DO NOT MENTION ANY AC trips".
To each his own. RC

Wow. I played in AC in the late 70’s when surrender was originally offered. AC and the AC game lost a little luster when they changed the rules in the early 80’s. Maybe there’s hope for the return of the six deck shoe in the casino common and, possibly, the resurrection of the four deck shoe in the high roller pit. Has the Casino Control Commission kept the 6:5 infestation in check? Who knows, maybe demand, or the lack of demand, will bring back the mandatory red chip table with classic rules.

The renovations were completed in the Fall of 2012. You probably had a room that wasn't renovated yet.
I've stayed there several times and find the rooms are fine.
The smoking slot area is confined to the back of the casino.
They recently moved their Poker room off the main lobby and they converted the old Poker room to High Limit Slot room.
Not everyone needs all the crowds and glitz that you want. The Golden Nugget is OK by me.
Oh yeah, they also have single zero roulette.
They have $1 blackjack not sure if they charge a commission.Quote: FatGeezusThe renovations were completed in the Fall of 2012. You probably had a room that wasn't renovated yet.
