Some people have so much money, they don't know what to do with it all

I thought I’d share a funny story that happened to me while playing blackjack at Atlantis in the Bahamas a couple of weeks ago. One evening I was in the casino playing Blackjack at a $15 table. This young man, couldn’t have been older than 23, walks up to the table with his eye candy girlfriend and sits at third base. He asks for $7,500 in $500 chips from his marker and starts betting one to two purple chips a hand. It was quickly obvious that he had no knowledge of basic strategy and he was slowly bleeding chips. Some basic strategy mistakes he made were doubling a 9 against a 10, hitting a 14 against a dealer 6 and splitting 2’s against an 8. Some mistakes he made went in his favor, but most times they didn’t. The entire time he was playing the pitboss stood by the table and watched his play. The hand that made me get up to leave because I couldn’t stand to watch the carnage anymore was the guy bet his last thousand and got an A, 8 against a dealer 10. So what did he do, he reached into his pocket, counted out 10 $100’s and doubled down. All the while Miss eye candy was yelling at him not to do it because he lost enough. He didn’t listen and got a 7 to make his soft 19 a hard 16 and the dealer ended up with a 20. At this point Miss eye candy lost it and started to curse out her boyfriend calling him every name in the book. But what made me laugh is she wasn’t really upset that her boyfriend just lost $8,500, she was yelling at him because he wouldn’t buy her a pair of shoes she wanted earlier in the day and now he lost all this money and now she will never get the shoes she wanted him to buy for her. Even the stone faced pitboss had to walk away to hide the fact he was laughing.

Well, he must not have THAT much money, otherwise he could have just bought the shoes as well and wouldn't have to listen to her bitch at him.

WOW you call them basic mistakes? You are a softy, It angers me just thinking about it.

Wow. Did the dealer try to stop him at all? Did dealer yell to the pit "hitting hard 21" and the pit yelled back "Okay!"?

It was in a game of pitch, and he didn't even realize it until I faceplanted the table.

I sat out until he went bust, about five hands later.

Just curious, but why did you sit out? He could have just as easily helped the table with his stupid play.

Bad mood. While I'm fully aware that, mathematically, there's no impact, it still stings to see an obviously bad move transforming a win to a loss. I've seen enough other people to know that playing in a negative psychological state can be fiscally hazardous, so I used it as time to mentally back off, as well as get somebody who was annoying me off the table.

Gotcha...and I totally understand because the same thing always seems to happen to me whenever I'm in a bad mood, too. Oh well, maybe I'll learn someday. lol

Still, rich or not, tourist traps are not even clsoe to a good place for making any kind of purchases. That's why there are outlet malls, even if you can afford better. The one thing better than a great outfit is a great deal.
