Evening, all!
I had just a quick question if there is any "power" a player has by cutting a deck in a certain spot, or if allowing a player to cut a deck with the cut card is just a symbolic necessity. I'm assuming tower shufflers, but I suppose hand-shuffles could work as well.
I don't believe so, but I just wanted to make sure. My apologies if this has been covered already.
Thanks!

If the dealer is a card mechanic, and he signals a partner where to cut, then yes.
Otherwise, no.

Performing the shuffle publicly is equivalent to providing a cut card... an ostentatious move that displays at attitude of openness. The only "power" exerted is that the witnesses demand the drama. The cut card can be inserted very shallowly, in which case the dealer will just resplit the stack at that point and insert it in the shoe.
The only "power" comes from forcing the house to shuffle and cut the cards.
