Just saw a PokerTek Blackjack Pro game in person.
On the rules listed it said:
Dealer hits on soft 17
Split into 2 hands
Surrender allowed
and it said
6 deck shoe.
I had thought that video blackjack games used an infinite deck. I watched the game for some time and it did shuffle as if there was a 6 deck shoe. Of course I couldn't see penetration but I guess I could have counted to see how many cards came out.
Is this a 'real' 6 deck shoe or some type of virtual 6 deck shoe. Do you think it could be counted?

It could be just show, I guess, but the fact they are actually showing that animation may mean it behaves like a normal shoe. The rules are poor enough that it won't be a huge risk from counters anyway.

If the BJ game is anything like their poker product then it will make you want to quit almost as soon as you play. I finally had a chance to play the PokerPro machines at Harrah's Cherokee this summer and I was embarrassed for the people stuck playing that crap.

Really? I had no problem with them except for the $5 rake cap. But I played real money poker online before I ever did at the casino.

I wrote this shortly after my visit and it got picked up by this live poker site:
http://www.playingpokerlive.com/pokertek-pokerpro-electronic-tables-1040-2
Cliffs:
1) Touch screen barely worked
2) Touch screen scuffed from all of the players cards and other things used to try and force them to work
3) $5 rake
4) Machines don't take cash
5) Cashier was not even on the same floor, you had to walk about 10-15 minutes to buyin and cashout from game
6) Ridiculous electronics rule with the claim it interferes with PokerPro tables. You seriously cannot text or listen to an ipod anywhere near the table. If an ipod or cell phone endangers the machine's security then maybe they should not have them.
I tried to play then at Excalibur when they were there but the level of incompetence was so high I never got in a game. I wonder if staff hates them because they take away dealing jobs.

Didn't have issues with 1, 2, 5, or 6. Cashier was on the same level when I went, so I am guessing the machines were newer when I played them, and I don't use electronics are the table.
If 1 and 2 were problems for me, I'd be pretty pissed too. 5 and 6 would be lesser of a problem.

Wouldn't NV regulations mandate the table has to behave exactly like a real (six deck or whatever) shoe? Especially if they advertise it as such? So it absolutely would be countable. So the what is the max spread you can play?
It would also be extremely easy to catch counters. The system could be aware of true player edge all the time and spot any betting patterns that correlate to it.
