I recently got back from Vegas. I was playing at the MGM at a 10$ 6 deck S17 Surrender table (got lucky i guess). I kept hitting 12 vs 2 and 12 vs 3 and the (many dealers) throughout the session continuously told me that "one book" says to hit and the other says to stay. Am I going crazy or should I not have hit the 12's. I was not counting but I am almost 100% sure I was playing BS perfectly all night. Did double my money for the night. :-).
Thank you!

No.
Hit your 12's vs 2 and 3.
Quote: LtFitzGI have been looking though the forums however I have not seen the question posed.

Dealers are routinely very ignorant when it comes to BS. Unless you are counting, you should always hit 12 against a 2 or 3. 6 decks or 1, H17 or S17, doesn't matter. All the books agree. The book that says BS is to stay is wrong.
Thanks again
Quote: LtFitzGIs there a chart for counting preferably hi/lo that says when to change what you hit and what you stay on? I.e. count dependent BS. I have been practicing for 2 months and have gotten fairly good at it (not quite enough to employ) but my next trip I plan on counting.
Thanks again
It's called the Illustrious 18 and is discussed on many sites including this one. It's an excellent start for the count you are using and the game you are playing.
Speaking of that, whenever I mention that MGM game with $10 minimums people become skeptical. It can be found on certain days and hours. Thanks for the verification.

I am often the skeptic. Good to have an outside source verify your story :). I have yet to see it with my own eyes.

Early to bed, early to rise... :-)

That's what I do when in Vegas. Glad to see that $10 S17 game is back. I played it in the past but couldn't find it my last 2-3 trips. I'm going back next week and plan to hit that game.

What's that old saying? Only counters and idiots split 10s.
Quote: 1BBSplitting 10s gets you attention and not the good kind. One reason is that whenever you do it you'll have your max bet out.

You calling my wife an idiot?! (Wink and grin!) She is certainly no counter, but she insists that she split 10s. Why, because it works for her at the kitchen table when I am trying to teach BS. She has only played once at a live game. She did get 10s once, but did not split them. Whew! She won't play the game anymore. She only plays slots.
Quote: LtFitzGIts in the back of the MGM near the Starbucks. Near the High roller slot room. It is only the one pit that has the S17 tables. I am sure it is only low during the weekdays or EARLY in the morning. Good luck!
I played that game at 10$ on a Wednesday night last September, but over the next two days I couldn't find S17 for less than $50.
Insurance is an important one. Problem is, counters only take insurance with large bets out, which is a known sign. You should, it's very valuable, but you need some cover. Act disgusted when an A appears, and grouchily put out insurance as if you have to protect your large bet. I also like to take insurance once when I have a min bet out and the pit is watching if I intend to stay a while. It's a reasonably cheap cover play.

Now, now. I hope she doubles down when one of those 10s becomes an 11. :)

I am sure she would. ;>p
AND, it would probably hit with another 10. "See, I told you" is all I can hear right now, from her.
