Last time I was in Vegas I was at palace station an noticed that they have a notch in the discard tray that they use to determine the amount cut off on the double deck, and in my opinion it was pretty good..... Are there any other casinos that use this method?

Even with the notch the cut can be dealer dependent and can sometimes make a big difference. That relief dealer thought I was stalking him the other day. :)

This brings to mind an interesting fact that I learned a few weeks ago regarding Blackjack in Indiana's "Riverboats". According to the Indiana Administrative Code, blackjack dealers are supposed to place the cut card "approximately 25%" from the end of the pack. Most dealers I've played with must have a pretty liberal interpretation of "approximately", as the cut card is routinely closer to the middle of the pack than the end.

I'm not quite sure how I point this out without drawing too much attention to myself, though.

The rules from Washington State Gambling Commision.
Quote:

The dealer inserts another indicator card fifty cards or so from the bottom.
When this indicator card appears during play, that deal is finished, and the deck is reshuffled, following the procedure just explained. The second indicator card is inserted to reduce the value of card counting.

I like how it specifically mentions card counting.

Ha! That is hilarious, I should print that out and bring it to the casino the next time I get a center-cut shoe.

I've seen those cut markers on the side of shoes in every casino. Most have multiple cuts apparently from management that can't make up its mind. In those casinos, the dealers are sometimes inconsistent about which mark they use.
