Formula used to determine actual house edge.

Noob here so please be gentle if I happen to ask a stupid question.

If I know the total number of hands played, lost, won and pushed how do I figure out the houses actual edge.

Math was never my strongest subject but I am pretty certain I should know how to do this. But for the life of me I can't come up with the formula.

No worries as I am fully prepared for the *Duh moment* I am certain to have when I receive a response.

I have an understanding of basic strategy and adhere to it always but after playing more than 23,000 hands I feel I am either doing something wrong or missing something.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Divide your total loss by the total bet for an approximation.

However, you've probably seen significant variance one way or the other - that's kind of the point - so I can't put error bars on that approximation without knowing your betting habits.

Really, though, the only way the "actual edge" is less than the edge is if it's your own fault, or if there's a problem with the shuffle.
The trick to poker is learning not to beat yourself up for your mistakes too much, and certainly not too little, but just the right amount.

For Blackjack, the simple answer is

(Chance of Win * Average payout) - Chance of Loss

For S17 DA2 DAS RS4 NoRSA the numbers look like (3/7 * 1.13) -0.4885 = -0.0042 or -0.42%
Some people need to reimagine their thinking.

Ok i have either not asked the right question or have not asked the question the right way so i will try again.

I know that as I continue to reveal the facts involved in my circumstance that I am probably going to be at best laughed at. Many may feel that my question has no place here on this forum that deals with real casinos involving real money.

While I am not even close to being on the level of expertise that many of you are I am not entirely new to blackjack and I do have some level of understanding of the game. I believe that if you were to play next to me in a casino I would not give you reason to be upset with how I was playing and and whether I was affecting your play negatively. ie I wont be splitting my tens nor hitting my 15 against the dealers upcard of 6. Please keep this in mind as I explain further.

My question is centered around a social gaming app installed on my phone called Bigfish Casino. For users in the US we are not allowed to receive actual payouts and can only be used for entertainment reasons. UK users are not limited and are allowed to receive payouts. the look and feel of the app does provide a similar experience to actual online gambling sites that have multi-player tables for Poker (hold em), blackjack, slots etc. I am not sure how the UK and US sites differ because I have naturally only been on the US version. so I speak only of the US site. the site can be reached online using any device ranging from your phone, tablet or pc.

from a marketing point of view it is brilliantly done. You are sucked in by the claim that you can play for free. I am sure the lawyers a BF have made sure that technically speaking this is true because you can receive a small amount of chips every 4 hours. This amount varies depending on the highest level chip package you have purchased in the past. these chip packages range from $1.99 up to $99.99 and depending on which one you buy you receive anywhere from 20,000 to 2,500,000 chips
which makes you feel like you are getting so much more than what you really are getting. Especially when the smallest bet you can make on a blackjack table is 100 chips with the medium bet table being 50,000 chip minimum. The smallest max bet allowed on a slot machine is 450 chips.

sticking to black jack the following rules are used
single deck shuffled after every hand
3 to 2 on blackjack
dealer must hit on soft 17
insurance offered and pays 2 to 1 on amount equal to half original bet
no surrender
double down on any first 2 cards
split up to 4 times
doubling after split allowed
aces split only once and no hitting or doubling after split

I believe that I adhere to basic strategy as closely as can be expected this does not take into consideration how often I get booted by a force close of the app where I was not able to hit a hand that I would have normally hit. such as a 12 against the dealers 10 and when I reconnect I learn that my 12 lost to his 20.

This is only an approximation but I would say that on average I start with 1,000,000 chips and my usual bet is 20,000. I don't seem to be able to play even 75 hands before I am cleaned out. I have been using the app for about 3 months and the following are the only hard stats I have and may not help determine whether the casino is paying out similar to what the payout would be on the Vegas strip which is what they are claiming.

hands played 23,116
hands won 8,810
hands lost 11,296
hands pushed 1,979
BJs 1,031

I know that the value I place on the entertainment is subjective. but I would like to know hypothetically of course that if I were playing for real money instead of these virtual chips would I be in the least player friendly casino on the planet, a casino offering good odds or somewhere in between.

If i am losing more than I should be if I play correctly what am I missing or besides player error what could be the cause. I am not afraid to admit if I am the cause but I need to know this to learn from it.

Finally I do play at the casinos locally in phoenix and in Vegas about once a month so what I learn here and by practicing on the app I hope to make myself better when playing there.

Your hand statistics are near the "expected values" for the most part except that you are running a little below average on blackjacks (figures right?). I wouldn't be paying for a blackjack game to "practice" on. You can use the Wiz's game (and others I'm sure) for free.

Thank you very much for the responses I received. I appreciate very much time you took to read and respond.

The other attraction of this app is the social aspect. They encourage the interaction and the connection you make with others BUT once those connections are made they require you to be actively playing for any communication to occur. Chatting with others is only offered at the tables and you are quickly booted from the table if you are not placing bets. The amount of time you are given to either take a hit or to stand is about 5 seconds which is enough time unless you are bouncing between the chat screen and the table. I'm sure they know that by rushing the players many make mistakes. Not to mention the constant screens that pop up to let you know you are running low on chips (like you didn't already know that). The most irritating to me at least though are the ones that pop up telling me "nice win would you like to celebrate and buy a virtual round of drinks for the table?".I've also noticed that the time you are given to decide if you want insurance is longer than the time given to decide if you want to hit or stand. I am always amazed by the number of people that do buy insurance. It's crazy how many people fall for that.

Like I said from a marketing point of view the app is brilliant.

Again thank all for the time you took to respond to my questions.
