Hey everyone, long time lurker, first time poster. Love the forum, I've gotten some great insight into the game. I've been a long time BS player, but I'm recently trying to get into AP. I'm starting with an A/5 count to get myself acclimated. However my question is this, I've hit a great streak of positive variance and I'm up significantly compared to my EV. At what point do you guys call it a day, because I know that further play will even out my variance, or do you treat each play session as its own beast?

Thanks!

Welcome aboard.

Good on the A/5 count. But remember the more advanced counts are going to overwhelm you with or without any acclimation that it probably won't make any difference. So, if I were you I would get into HiLo, or example as soon as possible. AND get CVBJ! Indispensable.

Call it a day when you feel like it not on any change of variance since things will even out in the long run anyway. Also, you are always playing for the long run which is where you make the money.

Your previous win does not "even out" in the future of your play. A 1k more or less at the beginning of your career will result in a 1k more or less at the end of your career. The only thing that changes: it will be less significant to your overall win.

Play as long as you have the advantage. Call it a day when you become fatigued, conditions deteriorate or you feel heat. Never stop based on wins or losses.

Thank you. Essentially that's what I was trying to say.

Play until you start to get into negative variance territory or other factors such as free booze start to exert an effect. Now if you are an Advantage Player of any sort you are undoubtedly paranoid about "heat" so modify your quitting behavior to avoid any difficulties.

Basically, you don't. The whole point of advantage gambling, in any form, is to get rid of variance, not to take advantage of it, and that goes for positive as well as negative. Variance is your friend playing BS; once you've got the edge, though, grind it the hell away. Leaving after a hot streak as a matter of policy is only going to get you in the habit of walking away from favorable conditions.

Of course, since you're constantly hiding from your hosts, that's got to be taken into consideration.
The trick to poker is learning not to beat yourself up for your mistakes too much, and certainly not too little, but just the right amount.
