Is a 5 dollar to 25 dollar spread on a good single deck considered greedy?

Can you do 5 to 20? With decent rules that should get you the money.

You are obviously the one experiencing the heat, but I can't imagine any casino sweating $25 bets. Could you describe the attention you are descriing as negative? At that level even if they've figured out you are a counter I can't imagine they care.

Dealer shuffles after one hand. Dealer flips cards in a way that messed up my count. Dealer constantly saying its better to shuffle unless you are a card counter. Pit boss came over and said you come to make money. Dealer started to deal so fast even the pit boss said he was. I felt like people who sat down to play with me were working for the casino. Guy at next table would not take eye off me and said that greed is the problem. Player complained that he was harrassed for not using players card. But no one asked for mine. I played at three casinos. Dealer kept saying royal match no bet. Pit boss said rub it in. Dealer played my hand while i turned to pay for drink. I never even saw what anyone had. I heard a laughter when I left with loss. I think these dealers have it easy. I worked as cashier and cook for ten years.
Business was slow at their peak time. I think they are all sweating financially especially red garter because construction is in process.
Irony is that someone was playing 25 min table.

Well this sounds like a low roller "sweat the money joint", so you might be right. Do you have a players card?. If so use it, if not get one. I think the casino management is inherently more suspicious of people without cards. Sounds like they are watching you closely anyway so the card couldn't hurt. One hand on single deck is possible on a full table...but if it's just you and one or two other players, sounds like they are shuffling up on you. Good luck, and try another casino if at all possible.

Help me out, math boys, but a spread of 5 - 25 played with 'regular' single deck rules would give you an expected win of a couple dollars an hour? Or am I missing something? jjjoooggg--- you are doing this for fun, right, not to actually try and make any real money?

It is pretty low, I know. Around 10 or less per hour. I just want to build experience and confidence before I go pro or at least have this as a backup job.
At least prove That I can do this. Most of my friends think that it is not possible.
Apparently dealers dont know how difficult a 52% win is. Maybe they think Im using uston apc with a side count of aces and sevens, and see a voodoo consultant. Lol. Actually I have slight autistic rainman look :-)

Sometimes it's fun to mess w/ the PB's by varying your bet for the hell of it.
At a decent SD game 2-200, I would have 2 black chips in my right hand and 2 white chips in my left and slide both hands evenly towards the betting circle, then at the last second place my bet. Every time I bet the blackchips, shuffle even if NO hand had been dealt, comical.
I did like what one PB said to me, as he was very cordial !!
"It 's not my $$$, what do I care " !! Have fun !!:)
I wish more PB's would take that attitude, the casino makes millions and your lucky to get 20 or so an hour as a counter or PB.

Eye in the sky must be thinkin whats this dealer doing watching her shuffle for what. You dont see the 2% for up to 1000 hours. I used alot of cover so all the heat was based on nothing. I even bet high like you said on first hand. But mostly I started with two chips. I did sacrifice profit. But it seems most dealers dont realize how counting works. Alot of dealers will stare at me when Im winning. That is just positive variance when Im betting low and high. You wont see the edge until you make 1000 hours.
After 1** hours of play, I only saw one other counter and maybe another. Seems 99% are pure gamblers.

The heat at the nugget was the moment i sat down. And 5 hands in at red garter. Peppermill had no heat. But the dealer would hold both his cards and flip them over and then flip the up card up again. I didnt notice it at first.

I didn't want to start a new thread for this question, so this thread seems appropriate enough.
I was counting (of course) and only spreading $5-$15, basically just trying to bring down the HE as opposed to actually gaining a PE. In any event, on one occasion, I was faced with a total of nine on a dealer twelve, so I doubled and the dealer yelled, "Doubling on Nine," across the floor. I found this behavior to be kind of strange, especially since I had (as always) been tipping pretty well. Do you guys think she was alerting the floor to me?

Excuse me, dealer two. I always think in terms of, "Assume a dealer ten," even though I play BS as opposed to, "Assume a dealer ten."

JFTR: The dealer did end up having a Ten-Card for twelve, as well, I remember it pretty vividly because I'd never heard a dealer be THAT vocal about someone doubling on nine. They've said it before, but this rose to the level of a yell.

I wonder what that dealer would have done after seeing me double 9 vs 7 with a big bet out.
If you assume a 10 in the hole you'll be right just over 30% of the time.

I didn't think you did but I figured it was a good opportunity to throw it out there. For those just learning the game it's actually not a bad way to play. Most of the decisions will be correct with insurance being a costly exception.

I just tell beginners to mimic the dealer until they learn BS. It's just as easy (you can ask the dealer to essentially play your hand for you) and better than assuming the ten.
