...dealer hits on 17 but takes a maximum of 6 cards. Other standard video BJ rules: one deck, double only on 10 or 11, double after split, no re-splitting anywhere, 6-card charlie. Based on piecing together various Wizard of Odds/Vegas numbers, the house edge appears to be .12%. And yes, this is in Reno with a 3:2 BJ payout.

My questions:
1) I had never heard of the "Dealer Stops at 6 cards" rule. The Wizard claims that this rule has 0% effect on the game. Is this correct?

2) Any comments would be appreciated: my bank for each betting "session" was 20 units and my goal was to win 12 units. I also decided that once I lost 12 units (leaving me with 8), I would change my goal into a "rescue operation", where my new goal would be to return to break even. This happened to work quite well, but any advice is welcome.

Thanks for your time!

I assume you meant to say 'dealer hits on SOFT 17'....

If the dealer stops at 6 cards, there will be fewer times the dealer busts, that is, he won't have to hit his 14's. 15's qnd 16's with 6 cards. Since your basic strategy would have you standing with 12, 13, 14, 15 against many of the starting cards that would result in the dealer having 6 cards and being under 17, this would add to the house edge. Of course the times the dealer DOES NOT hit his 15 or 16 is good for you if you were dealt a 17 -21. I think given the rarity of the dealer getting 6 cards totalling 16 or less, and the mitigating advantages and disadvantages of the dealer standing, the likely change in house edge is too small to even bother calculating.
