If the player loses the count during a shoe game, is it alright to pick-up the count from that point.? At some point the count is usually 0. Even it one counts from round to round some info is available to be used in your playing.

I wouldn't, zero could be an improvement depending on where the count was when you lost it. If you pick it up from zero, you might think that you are +3 (and bet accordingly) near the end of the shoe when you are actually at zero.

If you play a lot, losing the count happens more than you would like to admit. Usually if I lose the count, I know that it has been trending in one direction the last few rounds, I just pick it up from where I last remember, maybe low balling by one just to be safe. The bigger issue, is sometimes when you are on auto pilot, you will flip the count. A minus 3 will become a plus 3. This has bigger implications. personally, I wong out aggressively, avoiding many negative counts, so this isn't too big an issue.

I wholeheartedly agree. If you lose the count, you may as well excuse yourself and take a break.

Ideally you wouldn't set it to 0. Hopefully you have some idea of the count, just pick a number, then shave 1-3 points off of it to be conservative, and go from there.
If you DO completely lose the count and want to set it to 0, you must remember to adjust your deck count for the purpose of calculating true count. ALL cards already dealt should be treated as if they were behind the cut card, yet to be dealt.

Cathy Hulbert says Ken Uston constantly lost the count
and was always asking her what it was because she
always knew. Yet he refused to let her on the team as
a player because he believed women couldn't hack it.
