Particularly of interest perhaps to those who take the buffet while a dayboat is sailing out towards International waters.
Recent Scientific Research.
The article sites some controlled research wherein gamblers were playing a synthetic card came that put real money at risk of being lost and had to analyze the risk of four different decks.
Blood sugar, excitement, boredom ... all probably play a role.
IF I indulge in a buffet, I usually go up to my room and sleep .... otherwise I'm awake pretty much all the time I'm in a casino, often starting my day showered and dressed but not yet caffeinated at 6:00am in the casino and many times seeing people at the craps table who were there the night before.
I think my recent experiences on day boats where the voyage is brief have changed my perceptions in gambling, but I might as well join the buffet line on the gambling boat, I can't do much else in Territorial Waters.

It is a pretty well-known phenomenon in the poker world that a lot of players (including top pros) bust out after making a big mistake in a higher proportion after the dinner break of a very long tournament. I have heard in numerous articles from different live pros that they don't eat a big dinner on the dinner break because they have made frequent mistakes after the dinner break. This could also be attributed to simply being tired after playing 8 hours of poker, but it can't hurt to abide it. Eating a big meal definitely makes me feel sluggish and not want to do anything.
I used to play online poker a lot and it was amazing how often people made huge huge mistakes when there were 2 or 3 tables left. Now that I think about it, it probably has more to do with your brain frying and your focus dwindling after long hours, but if this article is accurate food probably plays a part.

casino's money disappears
the execs worry when the wizard is near
He turns tears into joy
Everyone's happy when the wizard walks by

Ain't no myth.

I've known this for decades. After dinner, my
concentration is shot to hell. I always
eat after I'm done playing for the day. Naps
after lunch are as old as history.

I'm still going with myth. Many studies have confirmed it. It did make a good Seinfield episode.

Sounds' like excellent advise to me. Will be skipping the food in Vegas. Can we have a couple of granola bars and an apple??

The study cited refers only to a player's performance at a synthetic gambling activity immediately after having consumed a large meal. No need to go the granola bars and an apple route. Vegas should always be FUN. Just moderate your gambling afterwards if the granola bar is a very large one.Quote: Baccaratfrom79Sounds' like excellent advise to me. Will be skipping the food in Vegas. So the jumbo granola bar with the celeb sauce and the slice of whipped granola pie with the whipped crème and bananas on top is definitely too much?Quote: FleaStiffJust moderate your gambling afterwards if the granola bar is a very large one.

It's the old saw - the bloods all gone to your stomach.
Gambling is a metaphor for life. Hang around long enough and it's all gone.

Guess it doesn't matter much anyways, we seldom start playing before 10pm anyways and then we take a good hour or two to get warmed up.
