Quote: VegasriderWeekly hotels in Reno are pretty expensive since we have a lot of contractors from out of town occupying them. Resort fees can easily be waived by the host if you decide to pay for a room. Only $3 for a day pass on the bus. Transit station is right across the street from Nugget. Lincoln line is an express to downtown runs every 10-20 minutes every day. Takes 12 minutes. Or you can take the Nugget airport shuttle and transfer to the Atlantis or Peppermill airport shuttle for free. Nugget is only 7 minutes to RNO. There is a direct line you can take on the bus from Nugget to Atlantis. Uber or Lyft and cabs are a rip off, refuse to take em unless it’s a last resort. I either ride my motorcycle, walk or take the transit or shuttles. I don’t own a car.
Stud is NOT a popular game and is not a regular spread game at the Atlantis. No Limit, there are bad and great games. Just don’t play during the day. Swing from 6-midnight is good on Fri and Sat night.

using a bus, especially at night in the really sketchy bus stops on both sides of the street from the Peppermill is definitely a NO when ill usually have between 1k and 3k on me. i cant ever go there without being asked for money by a guy whose homeless and looks drunk or high and apt to become violent at any second. its only safe during daylight hours.
u also cant use the shuttle without a suitcase or u get questioned to death and not believed. i did that a few times years ago and gave up.
Quote: teddysDoes Club Cal-Neva still have a hotel? I bet it's cheap. I think one of their hotels they offloaded to Siegal Suites. But it's an interior-corridor place. Might be nice. Downtown Reno seems to have some decent housing and maybe even some decent motels in okay neighborhoods. Like everywhere else getting more expensive but not crazy-crazy like some coastal places.
THE ROW downtown is a great value proposition with a little machine play. Try to make Diamond on VBJ or VP or slots ;). You will get waived resort fees and probably a ton of comped nights. Or you can use your reward dollars for rooms and food. Silver Legacy has nice rooms. Eldorado is being renovated, too. Never stayed in Circus Circus but I think they almost give those rooms away. Silver Legacy has a very underrated poker room as well.
Whats the best poker room in Reno, now? Atlantis, GSR, Peppermill, or SL? I think I would say Peppermill for promos and action. That's another good place to play for rooms/comps. They don't give much in cashback, though the monhtly bounceback offer can be good. Tons of slot tournaments, too.
I find the public transport in Reno to be quite decent. The 1 Virginia Street rapid bus is pretty good. And the free airport shuttles are nice, and frequent. A bike would actually be great for getting between the Pepp, Atlantis, Downtown, and even GSR/Nugget.

Peppermill never comps poker players and gives almost nothing to VP or VBJ players. i know because in years past id lose 500-1000 and not get rooms. they only comp video reel slot players. or maybe it was just because VBali the host seen my blog post where i speculated he might be gay, but i doubt he seen that and is the reason.
the vbj in all the eldorado Row properties does NOT pay 3-2 its interblock, no casino wizard, and its all 6-5. i suppose its still much better than reel slots to earn the 15k tier needed for diamond. live table BJ is good there and that could earn tier points too. i used to have a high level card there.
One good strategy is just to call a host ask how much is needed for a room comp; or tell them what you plan to play and if that will be enough. Can call everywhere and go to whomever gives you the best answers.
i only found this out when i checked out today and went to talk to a host. and a guy was also at my table of $50 min bet using no cover at all, and they let him sit and count all nite. weird. maybe it was because once when he went to a much bigger bet of 3 hands from 1 hand, it was still at minus 2 but after a shitload of small cards.
