dueces wild simple strategy

On The Wizards older Java Full Pay trainer for deuces wild I had a dealt 6 7 of diamonds come up along with 2 other cards and a deuce. The Wizard says to hold the 3 to a straight flush in his simple strategy for full pay deuces wild. I had the advisor enabled and when I held the proper cards it flashed "that is not the proper play" The discard was a queen of Diamonds. So I had 4 to a flush and elected to go for the straight flush. Can anyone tell me which is the proper play? The cheat sheet says the play should be 2 as wild plus the 6 7 of Diamonds for the straight flush chance over holding the 6 7 of diamonds and the 2 plus the queen of diamonds for a regular flush. Just wondering why the simulated game said it wasn't the proper play??? Of course when I over rode the game it didn't hit the straight flush LOL

When you have 67 diamonds and a 2, you're drawing for several things. Of course you want the straight flush & that's why you hold those cards. But you could also draw to a regular straight, regular flush, 3oak, 4oak, or full house. The queen of diamonds is a part of the regular flush scenario. If you throw away the queen and you know you're less likely to get a regular flush with your 672, it reduces the value of the hold. In this case, it reduces the value enough that you're better off foregoing the straight flush and keeping the queen.

If I am reading your post correctly, below are the values for the hands that I think are relevant:

Initial hand: 2x, 6d, 7d, Qd, Xx (Xx can be anything not mentioned, except a "good card)

Note: 2x can be any deuce, and Xx can be anything except a diamond.

Here are the expected values for each play:

Discard 2 cards and Keep: 2x, 6d and 7d (worth 1.061055 to 1.093432, as it depends what Xx is )

Discard 1 card and Keep: 2x, 6d, 7d and Qd (worth 0.702128 )

Going by the above values, the correct play is to keep 2x, 6d and 7d and discard everything else.

Other Important info:

Note: I can't enable java on my PC for some reason, so I don't know if I can get the advisor to do a similar thing for me.

Here are the sites that I used to work out the FPDW values, and the to analyze the "correct plays".

I was playing on this version*** of the "VP trainer" and it seemed to work for a "similar" hand^^^ below:

***: https://wizardofodds.com/play/video-poker/deuces-wild/

Was the above link the same version of the trainer, as the one you played? If not, I won't be able to help test, because I can't get the other version to work for me (because of problems enabling Java properly on my PC).

^^^: 8c, 2s, 7c, 5h, and Qc

Here are the expected values of different plays:

Keep: 8c, 2s, 7c and discard the rest ( 1.068455 )

Keep: 8c, 2s, 7c , Qc, and discard 5h (0.702128 )

FYI, just keeping the deuce and discarding the rest is the 2nd best play for this deal( 1.032159 )

Lastly, I don't know why it double posted my previous comment, maybe i accidentally clicked on post twice before the screen changed, or something.

The mods have my permission to remove one (either one) of my first two comments in this blog thanks (if they can and are allowed to do that).
