Mr. Wizard,
I can't find the answer to this anywhere; If you place inside bets on all numbers of a single color will the HOUSE automatically change the odds from 35-1 to 1-1 as if it was an ALL BLACK / ALL RED outside bet?
I don't know the stats but it seems that if you are playing colors - 35-1 bests the outside bet IF it's legal. If you bet $1.00 inside placing on each number of a single color and HIT a number of that color the payoff is $35 and though you lost the other $17 - you still clear $18.
Is this valid?

The payouts for the bets will remain the same--you'll get paid on the winner inside (35-1) and lose all the other bets. The casino is not going to change anything in their procedures for paying off winners and sweeping losers.
To get an $18 payout on the outside @ 1-1, you'd need to bet $18 on black. Potential loss = $18. Potential win = $18.
To get the same $18 payout on all black numbers @ 35-1, you'd need to bet $1 on each number ($18). Potential win = $18 (win one bet, lose 17). Potential loss = $18.
Looks to me like it'd be easier just to bet the outside "black" bet...

Re-read your third paragraph....The payout at 35-1 is $35 not $18 - is it not?

The payout is $35, but you lose those 17 other $1 bets, for a net of $18.
I invented a few casino games. Info:
