Hello,

I have a question pertaining to card counting with online blackjack where there is a live dealer dealing out of a shoe. I am particular talking about the new VegasLive feature on Sportsbook.com but my question pertains to any live video streamed online blackjack game. Basically, why can't you count cards in this situation? In this case you see the shoe and I just count using a pen and paper under the Easy OPP system. The best thing is that I don't even have to bet when the deck is not in my favor. The shoe is 6 decks. The rules are typical, 3:2 Blackjack, Only double 9-11, can split to 4 hands I believe.

I have searched online and some say this does not work because the dealer puts the cut card much closer to the front of the deck than typical. From the video and the length of the shoe I don't sense anything atypical. Nevertheless I never learned anything about how where the cut card is effects the house edge in terms of counting cards. I mean it clearly makes sense in terms of variance, If you have a +5 deck and 10 cards are left I can be a lot more certain what is coming than if there are 40 cards left. Also clearly you will be in a position where the deck is significantly in your favor enough if you shuffle before you get there.

So is the cut card the reason, if so why? If not, what am I missing because its hard for me to believe the online casino is just going to let you bet when the player has an edge. I mean they could and of course they know when you are betting any they may just shut you down if you do that. No Idea.

Thanks,
Nic
