After the first turn, I was probably in the same boat as DogHead, torn between TREAD AND TREAT. I sat there agonizing which word to pick, the one I did or the one he did. I debated whether to go with my first instinct, second one, or flip a coin. My first instinct when it comes to guessing game situations has historically been awful with this game. Then again, they rarely use a nice common word, with five different letters, and no rare letters.

In the end, my distrust and loathing of myself won the day and I went against my first instinct. Arggghhhh! I would have more respect for myself if I had flipped a coin. If it didn't go my way, I could have at least blamed the coin.

You might say the NYT threw us a treat today, but I overthought the situation too much to accept it.
